Because around 20% of eircom exchanges have no DSL capability and there is no plan to give them any.

Pretty simple really, Eircom would have to spend more money upgrading the exchange and lines with no chance of getting its investment back.

Well they will lose most of those customers in the next few years anyway and will not get their investment back that way either :D Over half of all eircom lines, currently in service, carry DSL...that is why people have land lines nowadays...that or the Social Welfare pays for it for the moment.

Damned if they do and damned if they don't so. Less damned IF they do.

Something the emasculated Eircom reps have now been ordered to not answer questions on. Is there any chance the govt would take control of the non DSL Exchanges and pay a few million to Vodafone or a private contractor to enable some of them. Understand That Eircom
are near bankrupt and have ended DSL roll out but surely broadband availability is something the govt should support for economic reasons.

Btw Eircom were paid millions in taxpayer money to provide DSL.
