No petrol at the Honeypark Tesco. Id say it wont even have sufficient parking to meet demand

I don't remember there being mention of a petrol station in the planning application.

Silvio's Takeaway and Xrtravision both closed in Sandyford Hall SC during 2013 and both units still empty.

Prior to that all six units were continuously occupied since the SC opened in about 1998.

Also, in Sandyford village there was a new building constructed about 10 years ago; a Chinese takeaway and second floor Chinese restaurant over a general corner shop "Fitzsimons".

The Chinese outlets are still in business but the shop closed several years ago and is vacant.

Has anyone eaten at the Asian place that's opened where Abrakebra used to be in Dun Laoghaire?

Yes, it's nice [what I had was nice]. Staff are very friendly. Was chatting to him and he said he wasn't that busy, but hoped it'd pick up.

They need some specials offers advertised in the window. I avoid empty places like that since I dunno how fresh the produce will be. Even if they are just intro offers to get a customer base. Abras had daily offers so at least you knew that item would have good turnover that day. Same with any offers.

There is a newish chipper near walters, might not be new at all, it was a friend who told me it existed and said its very good. From the outside it doesn't look like a chipper and you can not see prices or anything from outside, doing themselves no favours at all. Not marsellas, I think its the white shop here

In addition to the shops at Honeypark there will also be a new gym opening underneath the Tesco supermarket. Not sure how this will do given that " Anytime Anywhere Fitness" opened on Kill Avenue last autumn.

I think Legends (the new chipper) is actually Marsella's just refurbed / changed?

I think Legends is different to Marsella's, certainly all the staff seem to be different anyway (I haven't seen any women working there yet!).

  • Registered Users Posts: 32,381 ✭✭✭✭rubadub

Marsellas is still there, the others a few doors up, going towards the shopping centre(s).

You would easily miss it, looks like a small restaurant, not a chipper.

Seriously guys Marsellas is gone - I passed in today, and Legends in there instead.

They do have daily specials and have done so since they opened. However, they are written on a whiteboard in the window so they're probably not as clear as they could be. Portions are excellent and it has been very tasty the few times I've been in. Very nice staff too.

I have always wondered why places like these don't print their special offers etc. in basic black/white A5 and hand them out around the town. At the very least it lets people know where you are .. A lot of places in the city centre could do with trying this too. It's a lot less common here than on the continent and it works. Obviously Dún Laoghaire and the city centre are entirely different, but the idea is the same.

I think the location is very suspect - I don't know how Abrakebabra lasted so long. They would be much better off up the street a bit, closer to McDonalds, shopping centre etc. Probably a lot more costly to renovate though. Also, takeaway should be a huge part of their business so I wouldn't be too concerned about the place being empty although it doesn't look terribly inviting.

I pass them all the time and it seems to be picking up a bit from what I can see. Hopefully anyway.

I'm guessing there is a second place which is not called Legend? Will have a look later if I'm passing.

That Google maps pic seems quite old, pretty sure that Thai place next door is long gone and has been replaced by an Italian?

Speaking of marsellas there seems to be a new chipper open right beside it which opened up in the summer also what happened to the magic chef in stillorgan it seems to be replaced by riba cafe/restaurant

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭davej

Two Beans Coffee Bar looks like it's opening pretty soon on Lower George's Street (between "Just Beds" and the Fast Fit). Seems they have graduated from their mobile cafe business..

Looking forward to checking it out.

Marsella's has changed hands 3 times since I moved into the area. Doesn't bode well for an identical business opening beside them..

Have yet to check.. :P The name has changed but they're claiming there is another place beside them not called Legend. :)

There's a new phone repair/laptop/accessories shop beside the small (closed down) Post Office on Georges Street.

Soles 4 Less at the entrance of DLSC is gone. Closed at the weekend.

The main post office beside BoI is still there. There was a Post Office agent up the other end of the street. Got an awfully miserable welcome anytime I went in. They closed recently.

+1, dunno what the names are but just saying I am pretty sure there are 2 places doing italian chipper food across from walters. If you are passing one definitely has the appearance of a regular chipper, and the other does not, I think you can sit in too, not sure if there are 2 menus like others would have.

I didn't see any, I got a menu which was in a box outside, which is a good idea, not forcing people to come all the way in to get one.

In order to bring clarity to the situation, I did some detective work today (I walked from Dalkey to Georges Street :P )

Re: MarsellasLegendgate - There is indeed a 'new' place next door - the aforementioned Italian that replaced the Thai Palace. It's been there for ages. It's not exactly a competitor, they serve an Italian menu with a small portion dedicated to Burgers/Chips ITICA food which I would hazard a guess come from Marsella's.. I previously assumed they were related but they may not be.

    :)

Re: Karisan, the specials are written on a whiteboard in the window to the left. VERY easy to miss.
