I'm always so disappointed when I see work going on in a shop and then the hoarding comes down and it's another Starbucks. I see what all those US comedians were joking about years ago.

yep i think, though for cafes/restaurants over certain size you have to have a toilet, so assuming there is one there but i've never been in it despite having worked in the tesco for 7 years :pac:

were any of the others popular brands of cafes? It will make a big difference to some (I do not rate starbucks highly at all, but it attracts people)

At weekends that area around bloomfeilds is teeming with teenagers, around the cinema. I can picture them hanging out in starbucks.

    Sounds like a nightmare

They are still there to spend their few pence, the area cant afford to be fussy about customers.

The Midway on Seapoint Avenue had the shutters down this morning. There was a "for sale" sign up earlier in the Summer and it looked very much like stock was being run down in the last few weeks, so it may well be gone.

It's a pity to see another of the non-chain newsagents closing down (if that's what actually happened).

No surprise there, the dominance and buying power of Centra / Spar / Tesco / Topaz etc in Ireland is far too strong for independent newsagents. Is the other one beside the Hoover store and opposite the church in Monkstown village still surviving?

Apart from pubs (which is also changing), Ireland must have some of the most idenikit streets in the world.

The crowd behind House on Leeson St have bought Walters and are planning to open before Christmas. Talk of €1m being spent on doing it up.

Also, the former M&S premises on Georges St is to get a new tenant, a multinational's first outlet in Ireland, due to open New Year.

The restaurant previously known as Shutters opposite the library in Blackrock looks to be getting ready for business again. There's a sign up in the window advertising for various positions.

They own 37 Dawson street as well.

It could be a really cool place.

Well done to the 'House' people, hope it goes well for them, it adds to the mix of pub types available and thats no harm.

Theres a real improvement in the buzz down that end of the town, the revamped Peoples Park and Fallon & Byrne premises is drawing a decent footfall, its like the Glasthule vibe is creeping up! As someone who works around the corner, there is a bit of an untapped market there for after work socialisers with a few quid, who would normally head to Glasthule / Blackrock / Dalkey. I know that doesn't make a viable business on its own but its good momentum

A new restaurant "Rage" is opening in Blackrock on Main Street. It's a 'flame grilled restaurant'.

Best of luck to them but how can their brownies be famous if they're just open?
