It's been an eventful few weeks with forecasts of major storms that in the end dissipated or changed track leading to some questioning the undoubted expertise & knowledge of the more seasoned forecasters on this forum.

Whether it's economic, sporting or weather forecasting we all want to know the future - we love the whole speculation and uncertainty yet we crave the certainty which is just not possible. We all love the extremes and potential for major events without really appreciating the consequences of such events on our day to day lives. We want the once in a lifetime events to be more than once in a lifetime yet if the happened more regularly we'd want them to go back to once in a lifetime!

While a lot of us on here get caught up in the excitement of model predictions, will it snow in my back yard, major storms etc.. we lose sight of the huge benefits of accurate short or long term weather forecasts and what the work and contributions of the likes of MT could mean on people's lives

So thought it might be interesting to have a thread catching thoughts & real life stories on the benefits of weather forecasting or simply if u use as I do the daily forecasts to decide if you bring the car or bike to work
