Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dont think anyone is seriously saying they should be banned....just that guys look like d*cks wearing them.

    Slight over reaction much??

This whole thread is an overreaction! An overreaction by overly self-conscious, possibly closet gay, men whose gaze seems immediately drawn towards the cock when they see a man in tight fitting clothes.

Seems a bit offensive... but if thats how you want to imagine people on the internet and it floats your boat...then whatever.

Perhaps you would be happier in Iran? Skinny jeans are banned there.

No chance of catching the gay in Iran, so there isn't.

I couldnt imagine myself researching a place to live based on fashion nor could i make such a big decision based on fashion. Transient, fleeting and invariably embarrassing.

If you think that "the gay" can be caught, maybe Iran could be the place for you,so it could

I would be offended if someone called me a perv and I felt the context wasn't a joke... It's a stupid name, I agree. (Someone already took 'Lemon' and I was angry).

Some people aren't offended by racist remarks either but it doesn't make it right. Equating 'gay' with something you don't like implies that there is something wrong or bad about being gay. The word stemmed from gay meaning homosexual. Continue to use it if you want but it's distasteful and there will be people squirming silently as you do. I've had this conversation with people before and they agree it's a strange use of the word 'gay' - it's not just me.

I never used the word gay. I just marvel at people that tut others on an internet chat forum over using phrases that are commonly used nowadays (rightly or wrongly) in a thread about skinny jeans.

As with a low cut top on a woman, skinny jeans clad men are leading your eyes to that area. Now who does that make "closet-gay"?

I see. This is a revelation indeed. What a funny little quirk to life in the 21st century that the men who look and dress weedy, feminine and slightly ridiculous are actually the virile, masculine ones. Who'd a thunk it? ;)

"I'm not gay, it's just them gays gettin dressed up all sexy making me look at their dicks" seems to sum up your argument.

Surely someone as masculine and virile as yourself should be too busy bedding "boirds" to be discussing fashion?

No, my argument is that i dont like the look. Your argument is that anyone who doesnt like skinny jeans is a closet homosexual.

You seem to be very agitated by this. I, and others, have given our opinion. I never once mentioned the word gay until you brought it up directly to me. By the way, being gay isnt all that terrible you know. Being virile and masculine allows me to observe you calling me gay, not get annoyed with you and come to the conclusion that your tight sexy jeans must have corrupted the consistency of your ball-sack and you are now lashing out.

So, as i said, pop that top button like a good ladeen and take a deep breath. Your autumn/winter collection cannot shine when you have a sh1tty nappy ;)

I haven't been able to afford new clothes in about 2 years, nor do I have any problem with gay people.

I'm just calling this thread for what it is.

I'm really sad to see so many people clueless about the difficulties faced by homosexual men in this country. Personally, I don't care about someone's sexual orientation, I think everyone should be afforded the same rights (IE - gay marriage).

Skinny jeans are simply one of many ways a subculture (gay men) self-identify. Fashion trends are often built around groups of like minded people; people who listen to heavy metal often dress in a way that conveys their self-identification with heavy metal.

If you see a homosexual man wearing skinny jeans and you are offended by it; you need to ask yourself why you find gay men to be offense. Studies show that most people who object to gay men are actually gay themselves.

    http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-04-09/news/31314512_1_sexual-orientation-anti-gay-attitudes-homophobic-attitudes

Again, since being gay is still not 100% socially acceptable, I understand why a gay man would want to hide it and speak out against skinny jeans - but it's creating a vicious cycle where the people who are the most anti-gay are actually gays who are afraid to admit it for fear that OTHER people are anti-gay.

In short - if someone is gay and proud, good for them. They can, and should, dress however they want. Skinny jeans included. If you don't like it; ask yourself why. It's okay to be gay.

I'm straight and I don't even notice a guy wearing skinny jeans - anymore than I'd notice a guy wearing baggy pants. It's just a guy. If you find your eye constantly drawn to the skin-tight jeans of another man and your mind is fixated upon how 'gay' he looks with his 'tight jeans' pressed firmly against every curve of his body....and if that fills you with emotion and makes you 'angry'.....you should probably consider getting your own pair of skinny jeans and learning to accept your sexuality.

People not liking the same things as you = backward?

Lots of people (male and female) don't like them on men. If you like them, why even care what anyone else thinks? Insulting people who disagree with you - nice. And mature.

Build a bridge and get over it.

I never meant to insult, but rather to draw attention to the actual put-downs people were using in this thread for guys who wear skinny jeans.

The poster a few posts above me had it right - what is wrong with you if you see what another person is wearing and it makes you angry? Especially when they're describing what they hate as being "effeminate" and "gay".

All I did was call people out on it. Why so obsessive about dicks??

So yeah, try and deflect by calling me immature or whatever, I don't care. I've already dedicated too much of my time to this small-minded nonsense.

It's been very informative to learn that I, a straight female who doesn't like skinnies on men, am a homosexual man. Now I can go on with my life. Thank you, rojomcdojo, THANK YOU!!!

I think there's a lot of truth in that. I notice guys wearing skin tight jeans which I don't like the look of at all, and I'd probbaly make some sort of comment in my head, but I am gay.
But that's my hang up on not wanting to be associated that way with something I don't like and that is perceived to look "gay", so I'd probably make a few subconscious comments without even realising it.

So if I didn't have any problems with them and I didn't care about any stereotype, then I wouldn't notice them enough to pass a judgement or be disgusted like some men are by them.

Honestly, yeah, I'd agree with that, that if you hadn't any hang ups about yourself you wouldn't really give 3 fucks about them and you wouldn't argue how badly they look or how unmanly or "gay" they were. You just wouldn't notice them enough to care.

The moral high ground is getting awfully crowded...

Edit: There is no doubt that men wearing jeans designed for 14 year old girls is immoral and should be banned. It gives people impure thoughts.

Yiz are all getting your knickers in a twist over nothing.

I, at least, use the word gay when referring to something off in some way. Yes it is as broad as that. And no it's not bloody offensive. For all those saying it's offensive, you do realise the word gay actually means/meant happy? It's not a word reserved for homosexuals. And not everyone that uses it in this way means it to be offensive to homosexuals. How fcuking PC. Just calm down.

I like the change in tone of the thread. It was pretty funny before with the whole "ha those lads look so gay what kinda women do they think theyll attract"...the majority probably are gay and don't care what kind of women they'd attract. And most girls I know find them attractive.

    :pac:
The world would be a boring place if everyone wore "normal" jeans, and besides, what're the alternatives? Tracksuit bottoms? Sure by the general logic shown in branding skinny jeans as gay, everyone who wears tracksuit bottoms is a scumbag - so you really can't win.

And do you think the origin of "thats so gay" came from "thats so happy"? Because it didn't. Of course not everyone using it tries to offend people, but I don't see it as overly-PC to not use it in that context. It wouldn't bother a lot of people but it wouldn't hurt people to find a synonym.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,263 ✭✭✭Gongoozler

I don't know where it originated, but I wouldn't assume it was a bad thing.

I quite frankly don't care if someone is offended by it, I'll continue to use it as I do. People take offence to what they like.

The idea that the people who are slagging lads in skinny jeans are all closet gays is absolute rubbish. We just don't like having our balls crushed. Some of the people on here that are getting very animated and throwing their PC 'respect everything' sh1te around are coming off as lads who love skinny jeans and can't take some light-hearted banter.
