Looking for advice on a TV purchase

Will be buying a 42 inch LED TV with a maximum budget of €600. Having trawled through the websites and important points to note when purchasing and taking price into consideration the following TV seems like a good option

    http://www.harveynorman.ie/lg-42-full-hd-led-tv-42lv355u.html

roughly same price in Power City and on Littlewoods (if using 20% code)

Any recommendations on other LED TV's in this price range and size would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Is the 4500 the same as the LG 42LV550T without the smart features?

Currently looking at the LG 42LV355U and just found your post. Which one did you decide to go with or which one would people recommend?

The one on pixmania looks very good but I cant find it on http://www.lg.com/ie/index.jsp

hey I bought the LG 42LV355U the other day in Harvey Norman and love it!

Great picture, sound and super slim. An added bonus is that it has a USB port that plays video files :) so i'd recommend it anyway!

feel free to ask any more q's you might have

    Thanks for the reply.

Does the usb port play .mkv files? Think I might go ahead with the 42lv355u.

42LV4500 must be LV450x series made for French market as 42LV450U is for Irish.
Mine ordered from Pixmania was shipped from France and it took 49hrs to arrive.

Whoa! Thanks for the tip buddy! It works great!
What did I need the VGA tv-laptop cable for?

rmvb & 3gp files not even listed
xvid avi + mkv + mp4 listed no problem
    avi + mp4 played alright

When pressed for mkv sample to play an error poped out with "file invalid".
Downloaded sample although "playable" on laptop was in fact corrupted.
Got to check with proper mkv. Good news is the file was recognized and listed in menu.:)

    Hi beazee,

Are you talking about the 42lv355u or the 42lv450?

    Which would you recommend?

Never actually compared them two. Never seen LV355 series live.
Have LV4500 at home and can only say about this particular model.

The only downside is I have to replace wall mounting bracket. With the budget one I have now there is not enough clearance left [ca. 4cm] for all the cables to be run smoothly and connected right at the back.

Bit of custom job made to UPC SCART connector:

Good thing is USB connector is to the side.

    Hi,

I went with the LG42LV355U and love it. Absolutely no complaints at all.

As already mentioned the USB works for playing movies which is great as I no longer have to connect the laptop to the TV.

Bought it in Power City who matched the HArvey Norman price. The only reason I didn't follow the online one from Pixmania was due to

    1. Needing it quickly for the Christmas
    2. Worried about the hassles if anything was wrong with it on arrival or during the warranty period (sending it back etc)

Power City is very close to me.

All in all delighted with the purchase.

Thanks to everyone that posted in this thread.:)

Heya yes it plays .mkv & .avi! Haven't tried out any other formats yet!

Hi Guys, I have a 355, and it plays most files off the USB drive, but a handfull of the MKV's don't play the audio - some sort of codec problem. Anyone any ideas on options to get that working ? Absolutely love the TV - my first big tv which I've wanted for a long time ;-) Cheers, Al.
