I admit I like country music

I am looking for anyone who is interested in country music, the likes of Johnny Cash, patsy cline etc.... I have to admit I have recently grown to love this type of music..... any info on "grand old opry" type of stuff would be appreciated..xx

I would love to meet up with people who have a similar interest.xx

Hank Williams inspired pretty much every country musician that came after him. While he was undoubtedly brilliant I think Hank Snow was just as good.

Also Dolly Parton is a classic pick. Keep away from here crap period of the 80's where she departed country to go a bit more pop (which, it must be said, she was successful with). In my opinion she is one of the best female artists in any genre, primarily because of the emotion that she adds to every song. Listen to this original recording of 'I will always love you' . Whitey Heuston really doesn't do this justice to be frank. Also worth a look is 'Coat of many colours'. Priceless stuff

The great pity about Dolly is that she never had a duet with Johnny Cash (which would have been a match made in heaven), because he would sing with nobody but June (Who didn't have a note in her head and was actually a far better comedienne than vocalist as you can see here)

Otherwise, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Ricky Skaggs, George Jones and Tammy Wynette are other great country artists.

Most modern country music is a little pants, very commercial and not recognisable from its roots, so I'd stay stick to the classic stuff. There is plenty out there.
