    Take your pick from:

    SSF4 AE ver2012 (latest SF4 version)
Ultimate MvC3, SF3 Third Strike, Blazblue CS2, Mortal Kombat (played at the last DoC)
The King of Fighters XIII (came out last month, is my favourite FG by far right now)

If you are looking to get back into fighting games I recommend getting your hands on Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition. It's the most accessible fighting game out there right now, with all levels of players playing it, especially online.

Yrevals list is a pretty full one of games you'll actually find people playing in Ireland. Although 3SOE doesn't seem to be maintaining attention really.

Do you know anything about either winning or learning?

Back on topic, as Doom said Yervals list is the most complete.

Having the latest Street Fighter game is probably essential for someone wanting to get into the genre. It's the most popular fighter by far.
SF3 Third Strike is arguably the best of the series though.

King of Fighters looks like it has a lot of potential and might be a good choice too.

SoulCalibur 5 will be out on February 3rd, that'll be my next purchase.

    You know what it means.
SF4 teaches all the wrong things about FGs.
Meaties are useless, reversals are safe, mashing from disadvantage works, you get rewarded for being hit (Ultra)...

Meaties can be used if done correctly.

Reversals aren't safe in SFIV for the most part.

You gain meter in most SF games for being hit.

SFIV is good at teaching the most important aspect of fighting games, which is spacing.

. You also get meter from getting hit or blocking attacks.

if u gain meter if both getting hit and blocking moves???
    that seems bit odd,
your getting meter for whatever happens except your losing life in one
in mk u get meter for specials, getting hit and having your opp block, not you

If your getting back into fighting games i say sf4, due to the amount of people that play it in ireland. But if you want something easier to learn and flash and just all around fun go with umvc3.

go with kof 13 or blazblue if you want style and flash with pretty tough execution for your punishes and main bnb combos. Also for the fast pace as well

MK if you want to get use to a block button and ???? teleports also for the great amount of content for a fighting game that comes with loads of stuff.

    ITT: Behollox.

Right first off, what fighting game did you play back in the day?

If you were an early 90's kid you played:

    Street Fighter II
    Mortal Kombat
    Fatal Fury

    Mid 90's

    Street fighter Alpha
    King of Fighters
    Darkstalkers
Vs Series (Xmen Children of the Atom, Marvel vs Street fighter, Marvel versus Capcom)
    Killer Instinct
    Tekken
    Virtua fighter
    Soul Edge
    Street fighter Ex plus alpha

    Late 90's

    Street Fighter Alpha 3
    Street Fighter 3 third strike
    King of Fighters 98, 2002
    Tekken 3
    Virtua Fighter 3
    Soul Calibur
    Cap vs SNK
    Garou: Mark of the wolves.

Right, so one of these games is likely your game from the day, whichever day that was.

Luckily for you two things have happened.
    1. Most of these games have had a New direct or Series sequel.
    2. Many of the games are now availible to download and play online, both on consoles or for free on PC.

Start off by getting the modern version of the game you like the best and try your hand at the original version too, if available.

Though If killer instinct was your thing.. C-C-C-C-Combo Breaker
