If you walk onto someones premises and order a pint are you not agreeing to the price stated outside?

Thing is, sometimes they're hard to see, or you can come in a side/back door you won't know. In my local they're inside the first 2 doors. They can be well hidden. And it's reasonable to assume it was well under 5.70 in drumcondra. OP was right to refuse to pay imho.
But a good point someone else made was that if it was his local he should know the price.

5.70  the most i paid was 5.50 at a gig in marlay park , absolute rip off

Hate when gigs or festivals go over the fiver mark. Just makes it awkward.

I walk into a pub in my local area,i order a pint the pint gets pulled then the bar person tells me the cost.I refuse to pay as its 5.70 i end up getting barred from the pub.

Should prices be displays better? should prices be offered by person serving you first before they pull it from the tap?

Why didn't you just leave instead of 'refusing' to pay ?

Well Done OP, I had an identical experience apart from the barring, but I haven't went back since. An absolute disgrace, have they no respect whatsoever to their local regulars.
Every cloud and all that but I've become quite accustomed to a few new local bars since I stopped going. Without promoting them myself, (find them for yourself) but there are lovely pints, great atmospheres and flexible drinking times around D9, D11, and beyond.

Prices like that are part of the reason i hate Dublin. No way in the world would i pay it. Jesus, anything more than €4.50 and you'll be getting disgusted looks off me.

As for the advertised prices, one of the pubs here has a Bulmers tap that has a mini screen attached to the tap advertising Bulmers. Bring them in for each tap and optic and display the prices on them. Anything not on an optic should have the price displayed on a lit-up sign/lcd screen.

Normally i wouldn't care about prices, but with new laws apparently on the way with minimum prices i think the prices should be advertised very openly, especially if they go up in price during one tour of business.

Anyway, going out is **** these days. Why go out when i can get rat-arsed on 12 500ml bottles of the finest German 5% beer Rheinbacher for €12.58???

If i just left then i wouldn't be objecting to the price.

I have to admit, it makes me laugh at some people not paying an extra 30 cent or whatever it is for the pint.
Wow, you might save yourself 5 euro for the whole night if you go to a cheaper pub.
And jeez, you'd swear everyone needs to get hammered to enjoy themselves.

30cent??? ...and the rest!! More like a full €1 or more

Its people who pay these crazy prices that make publicans think that the majority accept it and is therefore 'ok' to rip the be-jaysus out of us. Next it'll be past the €6 mark. Will you be fine with it then?

Go on, off back to the grafton lounge with ya!

We need MORE people like the OP and less people like you described

It's not about getting hammered and nobody here said it was

Ah god. Coming home for Christmas is going to hurt the pocket if these are the prices.

Just passed Tesco and they have 36 cans of fosters for £20. granted fosters isn't the best but still..

well I think there's more pressing concerns than the price of a pint .. like fuel, food costs, necessities !!!!
if you know a pint is cheaper somewhere .. just go there then in the first place and quit whinging about a pint been more expensive in another place !!!
If the places that are charging more for a pint and are still doing good business, then more power to them, THAT'S BUSINESS !

Hmm Well It came in a Novelty Branded Glass right? Just Slip the glass inside your jacket on leaving.

Novelty branded Pint Glass 1 euro
    Equates to 1 Euro Discount
Plus the feeling you have got one up on the bar keep:P

I wonder how a speakeasy would do in Dublin... have become popular in both London and New York in the past 10 years.

Also, what do people think of BYOB venues ( Bring your own beer)... a cover charge in the place of around €10 and then if you want to buy more drinks you can buy cans for €2.50

Ice bucket? God no, no ice... that's where we save on overheads. Or maybe a bar with a fountain of champagne, top drawer!

I heard on the radio of a man in Cork that went into some restaurant and got breakfast. It was self service and as he liked his tea strong he asked for two teabags in the pot of tea, no problem. When he went to pay the cashier charged him for 2 pots of tea, he asked her what was that about as he only had one pot of tea. She said that as he had two teabags she had to charge him for two pots of tea. He told her to keep the breakfast and promptly walked out the door to another restaurant where they would gladly give him as many tea bags in the teapot without charging extra. If more people did this it would end this celtic tiger type overcharging.

Surely it wouldn't be worth anyone's time and effort to put one pint back into a keg?

    It's worth Eur5.70 apparently!

You can want to but it's impossible to put it back into a live keg.
