At what stage to chuck garlic cloves in with the roasties?

Hey, I'm doing roast potatoes and onion later (nyom :) ) and I was thinking of firing in some garlic cloves at some stage during the roasting process. about 30 minutes to be lightly golden and soft.
Any longer and the get hard and bitter.
