Hi, I will be buying an ipad 2 pretty soon after spending about two months or so researching it. But I was wondering if there were any downsides to it, or anything about it that you can't learn just by reviewing it's tech-specs.Also, are there any acessories that I should buy or avoid.

I'd say hang on for the iPad 3. I've got used to the retina display on my iPhone4 and find the iPad2 display fuzzy in comparison.

Avoid the under-water camera app, and the weighing scales app.

Have an ipad and a galaxy tab.

    Both rubbish

I use them for work but very rarely at home.

Unless you actually need a tablet get a laptop.

iPad is like living in a prison, android is all over the place ;)

So what, like complaining that new laptops don't have 3.5" Floppy Drive.

I wouldn't say it's fuzzy, but I still find it a bit disappointing after the iPhone 4 display. Couple of forums I read such as chud.com - where I always have to switch to landscape and slightly zoom in - always make me wish for a retina display.

I think its just that we are spoilt with the iphone 4 resolution. I was waiting for an improved display on iPad 3 but got the 2 as a present. If the next version has an iPhone 4 like display I'll be selling this one. I do like the overall experience and it's fine for gaming/ watching Video but the slightly fuzzy text does bug me every time. If you don't have an iPhone 4 that may not be an issue for you or maybe I'm just too fussy!

The iPad 2 3g has a GPS chip in it, and the WiFi model does not, if you want to use it on holidays or on trips requiring sat nav, you should consider a 3g version, even if you dont need 3g.

More like complaining that 20% of your screen does not work.

Flash is a buggy security risk but not having it shows how you can be lead to believe anything. It is an essential part of the web as it currently stands.

Thankfully that is starting to end.

Resolution is awful as well, that's not even an argument ;-)

iPad 3 is definitively worth waiting for if your getting one.

From what I'm reading on the net I can see retina type displays becoming increasingly common and not just on Apple products either (let's not forget they don't make their own panels). There's a rumour that Samsung will have a high res tablet out before the iPad3. Also I wouldn't bother with 3G if you can use your phone as a personal hotspot but beware as networks charge extra for this.

The good old IBM T220 was rocking 3840×2400 pixels back in 2001 over 22"

Its been steady down hill from there with the exception of smartphone.

Hope fully 200 plus dpi can become the norm, new ipad should be about 260 if the double the resolution. Make a massive difference. They just have top ask their old friend Samsung to build them ;-)

if you tether with your iphone the wifi ipad will use the iphone's gps chip in case you didn't know.

I haven't found any downside yet, tbh I think they will be hard pressed to improve on it. Maybe improve the camera?

Flash, up to a point. Other limitations can be worked around if you jb.

Overall, a very good device for consuming contents on the move.

that's an acceptable analogy, if you finish it off with:

95% of porn is distributed with a stiffy... cough... flash.

I would find it utterly unacceptable to not have flash.

the apple fanboys always quote 'security risks.' do ye actually know anything about security? ive been using a flash supported mobile for years and I haven't been 'hijacked' yet.

JB is more of a security risk but I bet most of ye have done it?

Nothing to do with security risk. Its to do with running the processors at full tilt, and draining the battery life due to poor implementation on macs.

I love my ipad, i downloaded iswifter and skyfire.( both search engins that can play flash) i got rid of my laptop because the ipad does everything i need it to.
I have a smart cover and a back cover. Imessage is really usefull. The battery life is perfect at 10 hrs for me. I had an iphone and then a phone with android. The iphone never froze and was rapid to respond compared to the android.
    Well worth the money :D
