I'm intrigued as to the reasons in closing ones' account; the only reason I can think of is that people think it's too time consuming being on boards, and closing their account will stop them from constantly visiting...

I wouldn't think so personally. Fella in my class found out my account, but it depends on the person.

Sucks that the lads left. Great posters.

Was having a look around there and I noticed that Nani is only 1 assist behind Scholes and Beckham in the all-time assists league (43 v 44).

Unreal when you think that Beckham has played 150 more games and he was known mainly for the quality of his crosses. And Scholes has 350 more games than him.

He's way behind in terms of goals scored, but it's good to see that he's matching and on the verge of surpassing some legends. Long may it continue.

United fan sells land to block City’s “goals of football domination”
A Manchester United fan aims to block rival Manchester City’s “goals of football domination” by selling off thousands of parcels of a site earmarked by the world’s richest club for a 100-million-pound ($158 million) training complex.

Businessman Shaun O’Brien has divided the land at his vehicle recovery company, OB Trucks, near City’s Etihad Stadium, into 18,500 square-foot plots for sale in a bid to disrupt a proposed council order to make him sell it.

He was selling the plots for 250 pounds each through website, Unite Against the City, to “ardent Reds and anybody else that feels strongly about our David & Goliath situation,” in order to make the club negotiate individually and fairly for each plot, the website said.

The sale had attracted buyers from around the world, including the United States and Spain, since the website went live on Feb. 6, O’Brien told Reuters, declining to reveal the sales figures. “We’re very close to fulfilling the 5,000 minimum.”

The campaign was “to prevent Manchester City’s attempts to acquire our land in Eastlands, Manchester, in order to further their goals of football domination”, O’Brien wrote on the website.

Local newspaper Manchester Evening News said O’Brien had refused a one-million-pound offer from City to leave the site, stalling the club’s bid to redevelop a run-down, 80-acre plot near their stadium.

O’Brien said City had offered him 200,000 pounds for the land for the past two years, though they had said they would pay another 750,000 pounds for moving and expenses.

“But it’s just not enough,” he said. “I’ve been here for 15 years, I had no intention to sell (the land)… As a business who want my land to further their business they should come and sit down, negotiate and we’ll hack out a figure, whereas all along they’ve said we’ll give you 200,000 pounds or we’ll get the council to CPO you,” he said.

A compulsory purchase order has now been issued by Manchester City Council and the club to try to force O’Brien to sell at market value.

Manchester City hold the title of the world’s richest club, gained after they were bought by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan of Abu Dhabi three years ago.

    The Story
Can a private company take the land of another private company? – yes if they are a billionaires. Or at least they may try!

We have been on our land since 1987. We bought it when nobody wanted it. Since then there has been talk of the Olympics, then the Commonwealth games came, then talk of the Super casino. We have been approached by ‘everyman and his dog’ about selling our land.

Now the richest football club in the World want to buy it – no problem everything is for sale!

But there is a problem – they only want to buy it based on their valuation. A piece of scruffy land in East Manchester in the middle of a recession – shouldn’t cost much should it?

Our understanding of valuation should be based on the principal of supply-and-demand. How much the buyer needs it, and how much the seller needs to sell it – the same as a football player maybe?

The Ferrari Daytona Spyder – not the best car to come from Maranello. If you want one today expect to pay a lot for it because there aren’t many about! Is our land not in the same category? We have got it – they want it – let’s negotiate.

But no – they will not negotiate reasonably.

I don’t think this is fair. I bought this land when the government told us we had to look after our own future. This is my pension.

Thanks to the Manchester Evening News, this has now become a Red and blue issue.

As a season ticket holding United fan they’ve made it out that because we are red, we won’t sell, just to thwart city’s plans. This isn’t true but thanks for the idea!

If City can use their “friends”, why can’t we use our fellow Red friends to help us out?

We first got the idea from the situation with the Chelsea pitch owners, who managed to let Mr Abramovich know that his millions couldn’t get him what he wanted.

Almost 360 degrees around us has been sold to City already. Their work has begun and a fortune is being spent on the land while they are refusing to do the right thing and negotiate properly with us.

    How to buy
There are two simple forms to fill in for the land registry that we shall complete for you.

Send us in the post proof of your ID – a copy of your passport or driving licence with a photograph, and a copy of a utility bill to confirm your address. Please note that the Land Registry will NOT register you as owner without the ID and utility bill.

We will then forward the application to the land registry with the fee of £50 (part of the original £250).

Simple as that – you are now the proud owner of a piece of the most sought after land in the UK!

You can then approach city (if you wish) and negotiate your price!

    CPO . . .

    EDIT: LOL!

    About Us
What’s the worst that can happen?
    1: They win the premiership.
2: If the CPO (Compulsory Purchase Order) goes ahead, it’s possible that you may not receive back your full investment.

    :pac:

Also don't worry about the thread, it's just that Utd are having a mixed season and been at loggerheads with pool recently.

I think those stats are from 2000 only. There was a site which had assist table from 1992 and Beckham was very high on the list.

Edit: I'm sure those stats are not accurate or considers stats from 2000 as Beckham consistently averaged around 8-10 assists per season.

That thing would the Utd fan/City trying to buy his land etc.

From reading that, is he selling 18,500 x 1 sq ft plots of the site? At £250 a pop?

That'd potentially bag him, £4.6m!?!??!?! Or am I totally misunderstanding?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,789 ✭✭✭nicklauski

Then if City are allowed buy the land, you probably won't even get your 250 back :)

The Chancer. Just sell it to them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,521 ✭✭✭Giggsy11

Nani has long way to go overtake Beckham and Scholes in assist table.

Beckham as 152 assists in the league (Best assist per game ratio) and Scholes has 135 assists.

Giggs is at the top with 267 assists.

Jesus Giggs, he's on 630 league games? How many of his 162+ goals are in the league? + 267 assists.

In his 20+ years he's either scored or set up a goal every 2 games.

    Machine.

1 goal or assist every 1.7 games in the league. (if wiki stats are correct)

It will be interesting to see what sort of side Fergie goes with on Thursday evening (never thought I'd type that sentence :().

The Ajax fans won't get the chance to have a go at Evra over the Suarez thing as he hasn't travelled. Neither has Berbatov or Giggs. Nani, Jones and Young have.

That is not even a updated table. I think it doesn't include this season's assists.

    I'd like:

    Amos

    Rafael-Smalling-Evans-Fabio

    ---Carrick-Jones-Cleverley

    -Welbeck-Hernandez-Young

DDG, Fryers, Ferdinand, Pogba, Park, Rooney, Nani.

Pogba and Fyers on around the 60minute mark, for Cleverley and either Raf or Fabio.

No need to go so inexperienced, we dont have a league game for 10 days after this, may as well take it some way seriously

I think it has been mentioned before, but I'd like to see a full strength team played this evening, and fingers crossed, winning it. Then in the return leg at OT give some of the younger lads a run out where there will be less pressure etc..

Nani, Jones, Fabio and Cleverley are all lacking match fitness to varying degrees so I would like to see them all get a run out.

If fully recovered, Nani and Jones could probably start but I would imagine Fabio and Cleverley would only make sub appearances given the length of absence.

My opinion would be that you start guys coming back from injury and replace them rather than use them as substitutes. Everyone on the park at kick-off are still a little cold and take the few minutes to get up to the tempo of the game, bringing guys in as substitutes means they have to push themselves a little harder to get up to the pace of the game and so I think there is an enhanced risk of injury.

I don't see why Cleverley or Fabio wouldn't start, they've been fit for weeks. Just throw them in there!!

I very much doubt Fryers would start ahead of Fabio.

If we were talking about one player I would agree. My take on it would be that starting four players who are returning from injury leaves you with little choice over your tactical substitutions (if required) in the event that a couple of them start to run out of steam. Your hand is forced on who you need to take off.

Well I was talking about Fabio and Cleverley in particular. Good point even with two it might be a risk. Still I would expect both to be able to complete 90 minutes in the Europa League if they had to. The pace would be a little less frantic than the Premier League.
