He was at nothing the whole game, kept falling over, crosses were non-existent...and blatantly dived two times looking for something from the ref...something he's done a lot this year!

If you think that performance last night showed passion I'd really have to wonder what game you were watching!

    are you talking to me??

look at the savage goal he scored, 10/10

as i said before, i was the biggest critic of ashley young the last few months, but last night he delivered the goods.

Piers Morgan, you will all be glad to know, might be getting recalled to the Leveson inquiry soon. After Heather Mills testified last week that she did not let him listen to her voice mails and doesn't know how he had access to them. Ya should be keeping the oul head down Piers.
Tbh honest I couldn't give a sh1t about that thing! Let them have their moral outrage at what was going on....end of the day as wrong as breaking into their voice mails was nothing serious/bad came from it!

What about them hacking a dead girls phone and giving the family false hope she was alive?
It is more than just morale outrage.

Jesus that new United shirt is horrid, if they really wanted to commemorate Fergies 25 years in charge, then instead of tartan why not just have the list of trophies embroidered on the back or something.

Or, as a friend said to me, have the outline of a hairdryer worked into the design :pac:

About last nights game. Young and Nani were very poor in the first half. We were toothless all around in the first half. Its looks like we will have a month or so of frustrating and potentially title damaging wide play know that Valencia is out. Young always tries to play but his ambition is limited by his ability at times. Nani has great ability, his decision making can be shocking at times. Did anyone see his corner in the first half when he crossed it out for a goal kick

Fergie got the hairdryer out and both were a lot better in the 2nd half. We sharpened up all over in the 2nd half but with Norwich and Spurs away coming up we can't afford to come out of the blocks slow and play only one good half. Valencia always looks on it, whether its the 1st or 90th minute. Its a short term loss but its a hammer blow as big as the Vidic injury, especially at this time of the season.

If you compare last nights preformance to that of Barcelona on Tuesday night away to Leverkusen we would be no match for them at present.

Yeah I thought Nani was particularly poor last night. Just so frustrating to watch... when you compare him to Valencia now its an easier winner of who you want in the team.

I wouldn't be too worried about Nani & Young's display last night. They have been out a good while so it was only expected that they were going to be rusty. Hopefully everything will be ironed out for the Spurs game as they both have 2 games to get match fit.

I must confess that I get a smile out of people giving out about football jerseys. They are hardly suitable apparel for people in the course of their day to day business? I mean you sweat like a sex pest at the Mary of Dunloe festival in them.

Personally I think they should be as gaudy as humanly possible. I actually think that jersey is alright. It's loud, in your face conspicuous.

For the record the best jerseys in fit, style and design are the Adidas MLS jerseys. I have the Vancouver Whitecaps jersey. It's slim fit, no billowing material anywhere. Pure class.

That United jersey looks like it too could be slim fit.

It was a brilliant result, two nil away and getting a lot of players back. The loss of Valencia is huge but I would wager that man will not be a month out. If he walked off the field he will be back in a fortnight. If his recovery from the leg break/dislocation is anything to go by Valenica does his rehab!

Can someone tell me why A Young plays on the left when he so predominately right footed?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,222 ✭✭✭✭Will I Amnt

Apart from the first few games of the season Young has been shíte tbh.

No doubt he has some ability but I don't ever see him nailing down a starting place.
He has a chance now with Valencia out to show a bit of consistency.

He's been a very underwhelming signing from the start,I've never really rated him.
Takes far too much out of the ball at times and has that wanky trait of hitting an area instead of a man with his crosses which is my biggest criticism of him.

Plus points would be his shooting,he is a goal threat and has a cracking strike on him, decent free kick too.
He's still young enough to improve and develop his game,I'm not sure it will happen though.

Young is quite different from Nani and Valencia and I think that is a good thing. It is very difficult for a full back to prepare for Nani or Valencia and then see a switch where Young comes in. I think the variety on the wings is a very good thing for United. Young will need time to bed in. He started well so we know he has what it takes to do well at United. Let's give him time.

Which paper? I dont think we wil let Pogba go after leaving Morrison. After the reserves game he was so enthusiastic about making it here and how he is learning by being on the bench and training with first team.

IMO that's just media bs and he will sign new contract. Even SAF confirmed that Pogba wants to sign but they want to iron out few details.

Reports of 70 Ajax fans arrested last night after they had planned to attack United fans.88 fans were arrested in total including some from Krakow and Anderlecht who travelled to cause trouble, only a few United fans were arrested.

I've had dealings with Dutch fans before and there's a seriously nasty element among them.

Don't forget how absolutely rubbish Valencia was for a period of games before Christmas. He was the worst player on the pitch at times. He couldn't do a single thing right. At that stage Nani was on fire, one of the best players in the league.

Injuries take the wind out of a player's sail. Give Nani a game or two and he should be back near enough to his best.

I'd love a fully fit Nani on the left and a fully fit Valencia on the right. Both of them on top of their game swinging in crosses for Rooney et al to score. I don't know how likely that is to ever happen because both of them seem to always get injured and don't ever really play together all that much. We can always live in hope though.

I'm going to come down on Nani's side here just because I inexplicably love the guy. As frustrating as he can be, he's got some major talent and I expect him to step up and deliver now that he really has to.

    *please be right*

Has Nani ever put in a whole good season though? Again, love Nani, terrific player, but last year his last goal was against City in the Rooney bicycle-kick game, he didnt really contribute after that, and I would worry we could see something similar this year. Valencia did have a difficult start to the season, but beast mode has been fully engaged for about 6 weeks now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,709 ✭✭✭✭Cantona's Collars

How good was Evans last night? (I know Ajax weren't great but),looked extremely comfortable bringing the ball out of defence and played some good passes. Before I always had a nagging fear when I saw his name on the teamsheet but he seems to be eventually fulfilling his potential.

We won the game 2-1, Nani scored 1 and assisted one. Can't ask for more tbh.

Nani is clearly different player to Valencia. He tries something out of the box, he has technical ability to do something magical. Even when he is having poor game, he pops up with a goal or an assist. Sometimes frustrating to watch but that's the type of player Nani is.

Like I said he tries something different many a times and also rather than sticking to wing he pops up everywhere in the RW, LW, centrally behind striker.

Tbh I'm very happy with the way Nani has been playing since Jan 2010. Not only his attacking part, his work rate has been very impressive and he has improved leaps defensively.

(I'm not comparing him to Valencia or starting Nani Vs Valencia, just saying the type of player Nani is)

A few of the lads yesterday were clearly ring rusty, which is to be expected really. The only big negative from the game is the Valencia injury, otherwise I have no complaints.

    1st leg at home afaik.

    Heres the pdf.

EDIT: And just in case that pdf isn't clear, see here shows the 1st and 2nd leg schedule. Shows winner of match 2, i.e. Utd, at home in the 1st.

Yeah I know, I never said he didnt have a good game that day, he was great. But that game was in February, and that was his last big contribution. I agree with what you said about Nani, but the point I was trying to make was that he has a tendency to fade as the season goes on, something I am hoping he changes this season, but I am a bit worried I have to say.

Couldn't agree more with whoever posted on Evans. Confident with the ball at his feet, good positioning, ever improving in the air. Love seeing him in the fantastic form this recent run of games has produced.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,351 ✭✭✭Orando Broom

I'm not sure Nani is ever going to be the main man. He is a really good best supporting actor but I would not be too sure of him becoming United's most important player.

I would hasten to add however that stranger things have happened. I'm really not sure anyone could have foreseen Ronaldo becoming the force of nature he became for United in 2007/8. He was a improveing incrementally each season but that year he exploded and became the second/best (delete where applicable) player on the planet. He hasn't really looked back since. It can't be ruled out that Nani won't do something similar.

It was Zerks who mentioned Evans earlier in the thread. I would agree with both of you on Evans, he has stepped it up and as a big critic of him in the past, I'm delighted to see it.

I'm just wondering with Vidic injured, has this forced Evans to come out of his shell, step up and play more? Personally, I think it has.

That's the problem, we don't have a game or two for him to find his form. Norwich and Spurs up next I think, we need Nani to get going immediately. I'm not saying it's his fault that we're in this situation or anything, but it's a big worry now.

He is still poor in the air. It cost us a goal against Liverpool last Saturday.

Nani has been our most important player for the best part of two seasons. He may be inconsistent in his performances but is consistent at scoring or assisting when having a poor game. While Rooney was off sulking and came back struggling Nani was carrying us to a league title. Still criminally underrated.

I haven't read it for a couple of years, but I remember it to be a rag, albeit very much a Juventus-centred rag. A bit like Marca.
