So someone tried to take out Freddie Gibbs last night in New York after a show. Gibbs is grand, but a couple of his entourage have got injuries.
I'd expect a hit squad from Gary is on it's way to NY :pac:

ofcourse with the exception of lamar, pretty much sums up the demise of aftermath and the current weak roster at present. I personally think dre beats had a huge role to play in it, dre put the music on the backburner.

Action Bronson is a true character, check him out throwing 42" TVs into the crowd last night:

Someone from the concert said he threw out two 42" TVs, an Xbox One Call of Duty pack, a PS4 Destiny pack, two 16gb IPad minis and a bag full of weed in dime bags. Legend.

Great podcast by Open Mike Eagle with P.O.S, talks about how P.O.S started out, how Doomtree came about, how he got his break. Really good listen.

  • How have I not heard this until now??! Picked up the greatest hits on 7digital.
    Great stuff.

Also missed out on a lot of Dj quik..class stuff too

King T is a legend. I think that Xzibit got his break on one of his albums as well.

DJ Quik has some classic albums as well, Way II Fonky and Safe & Sound are my favorites. His new one sounds OK as well.

Discovered this site today: Who Sampled

Find it really handy and interesting as I've discovered a lot of good music by researching the sample credits from albums back in the day.

Also, M!Ck^ I don't think you can go wrong with DJ Quik, I think he's massively underrated. I was pretty impressed by his new album, the first half of it is really good.

Here's some of my favourites from him:

These English rappers somehow managed to get Dominic West aka McNulty from The Wire to do the hook for one of their tracks:

    It's a biopic about NWA I think.

Suge Knight killed a man, and badly injured another yesterday, by driving over them.

    He handed himself into police.

    WTF. Link
The hip-hop mogul Marion “Suge” Knight has handed himself into Los Angeles police in connection with a hit-and-run incident that left one man dead and another injured, following a fight on a film set.

The Death Row Records founder drove his truck over the men in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Compton on Thursday afternoon, police and witnesses said, shortly after an argument broke out on the set of a biopic about the rap group NWA.

Police had said some witnesses described the incident as deliberate, and it was being treated as a homicide. Knight’s lawyer, James Blatt, told reporters it was an accident

Great album I'm listing to at the moment; was just reading up on DOC's history. Really a shame he didn't get to do much after this album after the car crash, only realised that he's on 'The Chronic' in one of the skit tracks. Thought it was put on :P
Anyway an absoulte gem that I again missed out on until now.

    Fav tracks at the moment;

Wondering if anyone can help me out finding a track? Sounded fairly modern with a bit of a west coast vibe.

Only lyrics I can remember are along the lines of :
"Have to explain to my twins why mommy and daddy don't live together" and "my little boy saying when he grows up he want's to be just like me"

Just listening to a few previews on 7digital, you can clearly here the issues with his larynx
Not really sure if I can get past the whole voice thing, such a shame because lyrically it's really good and the beats are savage

You should try to look for the singles from the first album, there are extra tracks and extended versions of some songs on the album that are well worth a listen.

I found listening to Helter Skelter strange at first, but I got used to the noise fairly fast.
The beats sound like they should be the sequel to The Chronic.

  • Been listening to some MC Eight / CMW this weekend;
Also some Spice 1, will post about this when I listen to it a bit more.

    Some of my fav tracks at the moment;

IMO Still think Quik won the beef with Dollars & Sense but still a great diss track.

Gadzooks put together a little personal favourite list of the best new rappers in the last 10 years. Great read.

    http://blackcoffeechronicles.com/2015/04/13/my-favorite-rappers-of-the-last-decade/

If you are wondering who Gadzooks is, he has the gem of a track in his discog.

I dont recall hearing #5 on the list before, so I got someone new to look up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 737 ✭✭✭Jezek

You know what. I just tried to put together a list of my top artists for the past decade (new artists only) and realised it's really hard. So in hindsight the list the guy put together is as good as any. I actually might have a go as well, this is fun but made me realise that such a list is always completely subjective. Maybe we haven't had any true legends (or very few) so far in the last ten years, or maybe time is needed to make sure rappers are legends and albums are classic. I can make much better lists if allowed to include older acts.

so..in no order, and i'll probably think of 10 more later:

    1. Future
    2. Kevin Gates
    3. Kendrick Lamar
    4. Danny Brown
    5. Bronson
    6. Big Krit
    7. ASAP Rocky
    8. Freddie Gibbs
    9. Gucci Mane
    10. Chance the Rapper ( I know he only has 2 mixtapes, but right now the new Social Experiment song is completely stuck in my head, and honestly, he is one of my faves of the last few years. So, yeah, up the list he goes)

woah...I just realised, i dont' really like the new artists as much as older ones. None of these would probably make my top 10 DOA...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,246 ✭✭✭conor.hogan.2

Lupe, Cole, Ab-Soul, Schoolboy , Jay Rock, Childish.

Kendrick, Danny, Chance, Bronson, vic mensa.

Also then old(er) acts coming back / teaming up for example slaughterhouse, Prhyme, RTJ etc.

Isaiah and Joey B need another project or two but sound great so far. Big Sean, Krit and Cozz have released music I like but I haven't been drawn to buy or re-listen. Tink and to a lesser extent Chris Rivers could have something very good to come.

In terms of guys from the 2000's you're missing ATG's like J-Live, One Be Lo, Phonte, Mr Lif, Qwel, Wordsworth. Guys like Future, Gucci, Bronson, ASAP aren't fit to lace their shoes. In J-Live, One Be Lo and Qwel, you'd find them in a lot of top 20 MC's of all time lists...they're #1 and #3 on mine personally.

Probably the most talented white MC off all time. I remember I spent the best part of a whole week listening to Qwel and nothing else to get through his collection. Fantastic discography
