Glueing lego

    Hi All,

    My 6 year old son got some Star War's lego sets for christmas. We have them made up already but I'm wondering has anyone ever glued their sets together if so what did ye use.

    Why would you glue it together? By doing so you're effectively destroying the set and discounting any potential rebuilds that your kid may want to embark on in future. Also, complete Lego sets are usually worth something to someone somewhere so it will have a resale value. This will be lost if you get out the glue.

    He just has interest in playing with it, I did the building so he wants to just do the flying around and treating it like the space ship it is.

    Reading my mind here. Thought i was the only one that thought of this. Took me 2 hours to put together a plane and airport only for his cousin to come over and strip it apart to a pile. Never again. get the glue out.

    That is wrong on so many levels...

    If the plane is easy to take apart, rebuild it into something stronger.
    Or rebuild it into 2 smaller planes. Or a car. Or a robot. Or...

    Basically, DON'T YOU DAMN USE GLUE! :mad:

    Oh ffs.

    Buy an Airfix model so he can fly his plane to his hearts content.

    Glued Lego is just so....... wrong.

    This is why my kids will never get star wars lego or other overpriced lego sets like it. They will never be rebuilt as per the instructions so the sets will just become expensive creator sets. Simply parts lost in a great big pile of lego built up over time. My lads got the red train set as a christmas present last year. As they were building it they were saying what else they could build out of it. Never mind the fact that they already had most of the parts already!! So although the thought of glueing it crossed my mind, it did seem like a waste of lego. I suppose now might be a good time to ask the question: What do you do with big specialised sets? Build once and shelve or build once and break it up for general building?

    All our lego is built to the instructions and then all kept in some shelving units. They play with what they want and put them back afterwards (repairing all the bits that fall off :) . We keep a couple of tubs of "general" lego (parts from those poly bags you get from the papers, and other left over bits) that they use for "general" building/breaking up.

    as others have said I dont see the point of using some of those expensive star wars sets for general building stuff.

    I had some of those "expensive" Lego Star Wars sets.

    I got bored and re-built them.

    Here's a design I copied from another builder:

    (originally a B-wing)

    And here's an original design:

    (originally an X-wing)

    Then I got bored of those and took them apart. What I'll build next with the parts, I don't know yet ;)
