Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Guys,

I have a 125cc licence and I wanted to go to pass my motorcycle licence. So a friend of mine gave me his Suzuki GS500.

Obviously it will have to be restricted for two years etc.....

Now the silly question...... Can I restricted to the point to drive it for on a 125cc licence until I get my provisional and full test ?

    Sebastien

No, you will need an A learner permit to ride anything bigger than a 125 :(

You'll need the A permit. Assuming you're over 18 that should just be a matter of calling into the tax office and filling out the form.

You'll then be restricted for the time you're on the permit and for two years after the date of the full licence.

I am 34, used to have a 650 suzuki with my military license.

When I came here I made a mistake to change it to Irish one. I lost my motorbike license in the process (did not bother at that time, as I had a back injury and was not suppose to ride anyway). Only drove a 125cc from time to time. I called them and said they will not be able to give me the motorbike license back.

10 years later I'am thinking to go back to it, but obviously need to pass the licence here. My friend just trigger that by giving me his bike.

So I need to pass the test before riding it ? then be provisional, then pass the full test after hours, and be restricted for an extra 2 years.

Yeah you're pretty much spot on there. Sounds like you're starting from scratch unfortunately. Pass the theory test and you can get a Learner Permit. You'll then need to do initial basic training before you can use it on the road.

You need to hold the permit for six months before you can do the test for the full licence.

They haven't made it easy to get into biking have they?

    I know......

How many hours do I need ? 10 is it ?

Can I start the lessons before the test (doing it at the same time)

I need to find someone in Galway and start ASAP.

IBT is 16 hours. You need to complete it before you're allowed on the road.

Ring around some of these for prices, not from Galway so can't recommend any. Weird thing is some offer a discount for your own bike, unless you've a van or trailer how do you get it to their yard?
