Can it be done for 350?..

Was thinking about getting myself a tablet or a trying my hand at building a desktop for doing some online gaming/ video editing. Haven't a clue about them.

1. What is your budget? €350 as close as possible

2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming/tiny bit of Video editing and the normal.

3. Do you need a copy of Windows? Will get it from student software site.

4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Brother In law had Memory for me.

5. Do you need a monitor? no

5a. If yes, what size do you need. n/a

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? 720x1080

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? Well wireless would be handy, but not totally necessary

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? haven't done so before, If easy will do.

8. How can you pay? online cash, how ever i need to

9. When are you purchasing? New year before college starts.

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Limerick

and also, Upgrading. Motherboards how can you upgrade without loosing your processor? isn't there some sort of adhesive holding the fan on the mobo? or does it depend?

As far as I know that's only if you choose to use a special type of paste so that everything is held more stable but I think normally there is no paste so you can upgrade the mtb and keep your original processor (AFAIK)

Um... no. The CPU cooling solution and the CPU are joined with thermal paste. This is certainly not whats holding the two together - thermal paste has very little, if any, adhesive properties. The CPU fan is mounted onto the motherboard, and the CPU is sandwiched between the motherboard and the fan.

In short, yes you can upgrade your motherboard without losing your CPU, and vice versa. Also a lot of fans nowadays are cross platform compatible, so its increasingly becoming a moot point anyway.

When he says fan here I think he means heatsink, many have fans attached to cool the metal.

Over budget a little, but:

Dual core processor instead of a single core.
Much more beefy PSU to allow future upgrades.

You might be able to do it slightly cheaper on HWVS, I haven't looked. Usually with low-budget builds like this I stick with Dabs because I find HWVS ends up more expensive from the delivery charge.

FYI the G530 is dual core as well, in fact the only difference between the 2 chips is 1MB of L3 and a .2GHz speed bump. In fact the G530 gives gaming performance similar to an Athlon II X3 for only €35 :eek:

@deconduo: didn't realise that. Never mind my build so. Dual core was one of the main points of it. :P

If you're interested, this card would also offer quite a bump in performance for €20 extra.

Deconduo's build is a great one though. Don't think you'd get any better value for money than that.

Yeah, the G530 gives crazy performance for its price. If you look at the gaming benches here, and consider that you are only losing a tiny bit of performance from going down to a G530, the value for money is incredible.

All the builds posted are Intel builds.

Processor is very good, but you can always upgrade it to something better down the line.

Graphics card can also be upgraded for better gaming.

Oops show's you how much I know, I meant more i3's or i5? would it be as simple as buying one a placing it in the same motherboard?
