I recently bought a Lenovo ideapad z570 and was trying to figure out if modern games would work on it for example fifa 12. I'm clueless in this department so this will probably seem a stupid question..how come when I run a test at systemrequirementslabs.com it says my video card isn't good enough, (Intel HD graphics family) it says this only has 64MB memory, but it gives more information and actually says that I have 1.7GB of video card memory? I checked the online specs of my laptop and I think it comes with a graphics card installed (Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) so why when I do a test does it fail and why does the card not show up on device manager/dxdiag?

520 isnt that powerful but anyway most laptops now do switchable graphics. Some require you to do a hard-switch on the laptop itself. Others will switch from one to the next based on what you're running. SRL probably only saw the HD3000 because thats what mode it was running in.
