Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hotpoint hul 1621 fridge problem

Hi folks - hoping someone can help me with this problem.
Our hotpoint hul 1621 fridge has started to freeze up on the back wall.
It's over 4 years old so it's way out of guarantee.
Two days before christmas we noticed about an inch of snow had built up (practically overnight) and we had to unplug it and scrape the stuff off it.....however it was back again the next day once we had plugged it back in. The temperature control is set at 3 and has been for months on end so nothing dramatic happening there. The water drain hole appears to be clear and the motor is purring away there.
Someone told me it could either be the thermostat or the condenser. If it's one of those two i'm hoping it will be the thermostat as the condenser i'm told will cost an arm and a leg :(.
If it turns out to be the thermostat where do i find that item in the machine, how do i get it out and replaced and assuming i can replace it myself is there anything special to do when turning the fridge back on again . i.e. do i just sling all the food back in and then turn it on or do i have to turn it on and run it empty for a while or what?
One other thing... is there a blow up drawing showing all the parts in it available anywhere as nothing like that came with the machine when we bought it?......any help will be much appreciated.
Happy new year to you all as well :)

Not 100% on that model, a couple of pics would help.

It sound like it could be one of a few things, not the condenser compressor.
The fridge has an auto defrost, when the stat switches off it switches on a small heater in the back that melts any frost and that runs away through the hole at the back to a tray on the compressor where it evaporates into the room, a faulty stat, heater or auto defrost timer could all cause this issue, a service call would be needed to pinpoint which one.
