Was tough to only consider two but have to go with Christian Bale in The Fighter. I know he won the oscar etc. etc. but I honestly came out of this film blown away by his performance.
Next it has to be Michael Shannon for Take Shelter. The entire film rests on his shoulders and he takes this responsibility in his stride. Also for him to make me believe he's a different character from his magnificent performance in Board Walk Empire is a feat in itself

Brad Pitt - Moneyball was amazing, a great story from the get go, but the performances from Pitt and Jonah Hill made it an immediate classic in my eyes...
Brendan Gleeson - This man can do no wrong. Always a great performance - The Guard was no different.

Brad Pitt in Moneyball. Just a fantastic performance which shines in a film full of them.

Paul Giamatti in Win Win. No one plays a sad sack/sleazy scumbag like Giamatti but he infueses each role with a hint of humanity.

Gary Oldman (TTSS) - Didn't think much of the plot but such a fascinating performance.

Tom Hardy (Warrior)- He just dominated the screen from start to finish and was a thoroughly fascinating watch.
