Yes it works on 240v and 115. So voltage is not an issue. The market place for the google tv is limited as it is an atom processor instead of arm. You can "side load" certain android apps that are not in the market place, but I tend to use my device for playing content from the plex media server. If you are not using plex you should check it out. You can pause a film or tv show on google tv, open plex on your iphone or android device out and about and continue where you left off.

I do not know if sky works on it as I do not have a sky account.
The honneycomb update made a big difference to the unit.
For those of you using NAS and other storage for your films I have not tried loading films directly as I use plex for all of that.

The only issue with plex on google tv is that it does not do hls yet.: http://darrin.plexapp.com/2011/11/02/introducing-plex-for-google-tv/

This comment on an Amazon.co.uk review :

Dont buy this item if you are going to use it in the UK the market defaults to America and cannot be changed all the apps are also American so of very little use would run Iplayer but you cannot install the App.
Logitech will not support you or the product if its used over here.
    So all in all avoid.

    ?

So what's the question? as the post above mine says, you can side-load some apps.

Its not me, as explained, its a quote from an Amazon.co.uk customer that I was putting out there for feedback on.

    Thanks for your feedback.

I think that the problem with the revue and reviews on amazon is that you have two types of customers:
1: The mom / dad who gets one as they are not techie and want it to just work. In this situation the google tv is great for getting online, browsing and video calls. The USA tv part of it is not that good and needs to be improved.

2: The geek , tweaker. It is an amazing product that will only get better with tweaks apps and hacks. The keyboard range is at least 30ft and line of sight is not required.

A geek is more forgiving of bugs or workarounds, the mam and dad will just leave a negative review as they might not understand it.

Ah didnt spot that! No prob!

Given that I already understand it's somewhat limited by not been integrated with Cable/sat boxes over here and yes we are missing out on US content and stuff like bbci player doesn't work cos of IP blocking.
I'm not saying it's any better than other players of it's type as I don't use any other types. I can only say from my point of view I like what it can do, it does the Chrome browser internet on my TV, adds Video shows/netcastings, Yoytube, and HD content, lets me stream stuff from other PCs and all without having to move off my couch. me=happy:) but i'm sure people will always have a reason to hate it as it's not the slickest thing around and the above USA market and Atom CUP... but I like it!

It does raise a question though. Will a device designed for the US market, which defaults to US tv, be adaptable to work with Google tv in the UK and Ireland? Weren't there problems with US bought iPhones?

Why do you need a spare HDMI out from your cable box(UPC,SKY)?. I take it they mean UPC SKY?. There is a HDMI out on my UPC cable but not a spare one but i cant see why i need one?.
I thought you would just need a HDMI port on your tv to the revue?.

Don't need a spare one. You can put the HDMI cable that you used for your TV right into the Revue and then you output a HDMI cable (supplied) from the revue to your TV. This way The revue is always just a click away on overlay.

Im with you now, sounds like a nifty device. Id be interested for the streaming on justintv, veetle etc so presume live sport streaming would be ok(50mb broadband).

as already posted in this thread someone has used one here successfully
yes of course some features wont work.
but hey a media device that can also go on the net is all i want anyway.

if it does other this then yay for that.

Don't know if you knew this Logitech have one of their base's in Cork (Design centre etc.) the other been in the US in California. Saying it is designed for the us market is only really because their user experience testing, product testing etc is carried out in the us branch. We did a project with them recently in the University of Limerick in the Product design department.

Apple have a place in Cork too. What worries me, although I've taken the plunge, is that the unit might not be compatible with whatever version of Google TV is launched in UK/Ireland, Logitech will not be supporting the product so there will be no firmware updates. Having said that, maybe Google TV has a world wide spec.:)

I'm assuming that the unit can be rooted and other Roms be loaded onto it?

The 3.1 beta was around a month or so before the release.

    Update: something worth reading.

Bought one too. I really haven't a clue if it will do what I need. If I connect an external terrabyte drive to it will it play all my mkv files and stuff?

It will but you didn't need a Revue to do just that. If you're looking for a Google TV device with the ability to hook up an external drive loaded with Movies / TV / Porn then you got a great device!

    two plug power connector.
if i just plug in and irish cable instead of the us one will it work ok.
or do i have to get an adapter?

I bought one purely so I can plug in a hard drive and surf the net on the TV! I'm happy with that :D

Is there any way to conect these to a TV without a HDMI slot on it?

Without paying €40 odd for a converter?

Sorry your out of luck, it only has a HDMI out (and in)

    Bought one, damn you BA.

Apparently plays the BBC iPlayer fine (if you're in the UK, as I am) and once I get round to getting everything running into my TV via one HDMI cable this will make a great addition ... now how to explain the extra keyboard in the front room ...

Anybody playing with one of these yet ? Im sorely tempted, but I have a string of disappointing devices in my sitting room that can't play half the movies I have (Neither my xbox, PS3, Satellite box can play everything). Nothing drives me madder than "Codec not supported" at this stage.

How does it play with receiver boxes etc ? Is the HDMI just a straight passthrough? Finally, whats the bootup time ?

I'll post as soon as I get mine - know the feeling though, used to use the XBox but with more MKVs and issues with the the XBox seeing the DNLA server I moved to a AC Ryan box from Komplett which only sometimes turned on, had a clunky interface and didn't play all I wanted before I finally got a Boxee Box....which was perfect except it has an annoying problem where the HDMI audio transmitter thread in the kernel occasionally sleeps for too long, causing the audio to die for a second at random times - will be great when it's fixed but that's 2/3 months away and I'll need a second box (this) in case I move and have to leave one at home.

Really nice piece of kit very tempted to buy one, has anybody tryed to contact logitech and ask them if we could switch to a firmware for Ireland to have the apps fully compatible over here when released? Not even sure that I'd use them a lot with chrome & flash player there but would be great to have!

Mine also arrived this morning and also stuck at step 7.

This seems to be a well documented problems and IS NOT due to a faulty release of firmware as previously claimed. Seems to be a Logitech server problem.

Fingers crossed and keep pressing "Retry" :).

    http://www.cultofandroid.com/1294/logitech-revue-suffers-another-blow-small-percentage-manufactured-with-corrupted-firmware/

Apparently this does seem to be a corrupt firmware.

"They also appear to be trying to narrow down the issues in order to find out which batch is affected based on MAC address and serial number. They have concluded that the most likely boxes to have the firmware issues are from the 1144GB batch with MAC IDs 1C6F657xxxxx."

Do those serial numbers and MAC IDs match with your devices?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,751 ✭✭✭podge3

Mine just got past step 7 :D

Looks sweet now. I still need to set up the TV etc but so far it looks great!

I'll say it again - THE STEP 7 PROBLEM IS MOST LIKELY NOT A FAULTY FIRMWARE ISSUE. Please read/research a little before scaring people who have purchased these units.

I tried all that pressing lark but I really don't think it made any difference.

I reckon the Logitech servers calved over the Christmas with all the extra units trying to connect. Probably very few support staff at work until this morning in the US.
