4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I bought a 500gb Hitachi Deskstar on Adverts a while back but it needs a SATA power connector

5. Do you need a monitor? No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? LG FLATRON M197WDP, think the resolution is 1920x1080 . No

6. Do you need any of these peripherals? I will need some sort of wireless adaptor

7. Are you willing to try overclocking? maybe

8. How can you pay? Bank Transfer/Laser

9. When are you purchasing? January

10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Based in Swords but will try put it together myself

Im just wondering whether id be better off waiting for ivybridge?

Few things: That CPU and motherboard is the only thing I could fit in for the budget, but it is am3+ so you could upgrade to pile-driver or executioner. That psu is fine for a 6870, but a 6970 or so couldn't probably work. when you factor in windows (45) it all comes to 580. I would recommend home plugs over wireless adapters, but they're about 50 euro extra so never mind.

Thanks for that boggles. One thing I noticed is that you included a SSD but I've already got a hard drive that I can use so that would add an extra 97 euro towards the processor and motherboard

I have the SSD in there for ridiculously fast boot up times and shut down times (Mine boots up windows in 7 seconds) but yeah, if you wanted to you could change. Windows would be on the SSD and then everything else (games, movies) would be on the HDD.

here's one idea which is performance now, but no overclocking so not great in the future.

Intel Core i3-2100 Box, LGA1155 €102.40
ASRock Z68 Pro3 Gen3, Sockel 1155, ATX €101.99

This is less performance now, but can upgrade to ivybridge and has pcie 3.0 which will last for years.

Everything looks good there, maybe drop the i5 to an i3 then get something like this? Or this if the budget allows it, you can then get an ivybridge i5 k model in April and you will have a beast of a machine!

How much will the ivy bridges cost, similar to the current models or more?
I might just do that and get the ivy and a ssd during the summer. Will I be able to re-install windows to the ssd at that point?

The one that looks the tastiest is the 3570k, successor to the 2500k. I'd say it's around the 200 mark. Yes but a clean install is needed.
