Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

In fairness, The Famous Five had a dog called Timmy and a girl called George.
Enid was either seriously f*cked up or well before her time.

By memory, George was Georgina, and not overly fond of the whole name.

What's the objection to a dog called Timmy?

There’s a “Rocco” in school with my kids.

Was at an event there on Saturday and got talking to a friend of a friend who’s partner just had a baby. I enquired as to the name, or if they’d chosen one, and he told me they would be calling him “Mulick”.

Now, I heard “Ulick” so I asked him if that was after the writer, Ulick O’Connor, who passed away recently enough.

I mean, the only other “Ulick” I could think of was a character from Brinsley MacNamara’s ‘The Valley of the Squinting Windows’ and, of course, the fictitious “Magee” you’d see in “guest books” around the country.

Anyway, no, I was told the name was going to be “Mulick”. They like the sound of it.

What we gonna do when these ostentatious names become the norm

As is happening, in certain sections of our communities we’re not seriously expected to utter them without wryly mocking / breaking our shįįte laughing are we? That would take immense restraint

A “common” misconception, if you’ll pardon the pun.

No, the “immaculate conception” does not refer to the “virgin birth” of Jesus Christ. In fact, it refers to the birth of the virgin Mary, free from “original sin”.

Is it not her conception rather than birth?

We’re heading down a dangerous “path” here, I.

It could well be her very conception but the “end result” is that she was born free of “Original Sin”.

Either way, the main point is that the “term”, itself, refers to Holy Mary and, I suppose, her own mother, not to Jesus Christ’s virgin conception.

I always thought the Immaculate Conception was what happened when Anto forgot to wear a condom.
