Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Disc cracking?

I arrived home from walking the dog today and almost straight away my brother was telling me he couldn't get Skyrim to work. The little blue light was on to say there was a disc in the machine but there was no mention of such a disc on the XMB.

When I took the disc out of the machine, I found a crack of 3 or 4 millimetres starting from the centre of the disc. Just enough to make the disc useless. :( It'd been fine that morning, I'd played it for a bit before taking the dog out. From what I understand, my brother took the disc out to play another game and about 30 minutes later, when he tried to swap to Skyrim, nothing happened. The disc must have been damaged when he removed it from the machine or while it was in the machine itself - he knows how to handle a disc properly so it wasn't clumsy mistakes on his part.

Strangely, a few years ago I had the same problem with Skyrim's prequel, Oblivion, but that crack was minor enough not to affect the game - the only bit that cracked was the bit that holds the disc inside it's box.

Has anyone else had problems with discs coming out of their PlayStations damaged?

I am about to return my SECOND PS3 Skyrim disc to EB games.
I am extremely careful with discs and this is the second one within 5 weeks to develop exactly the same problem. A small crack from the centre, causing the disc reading to fail.

No other discs in use on this PS3 have failed, and the maching gets used a lot.

I returned the first disc 4 weeks after I got it due to the cracked disc, paid 5 dollars for replacement, and a further 5 dollars for a warranty on the disc.
Now when I go back I will ask for a refund of both the 5 dollar replacement and 5 dollar warranty as it's obvious there is a manufacturing issue with these Discs!
