Turn me away when I'm drunk fine. But to turn me away when I'm comparatively sober to all the people in there? Well **** you then. Will listen to it on ULFM and drink myself into a coma at home instead.

UlFest was brilliant. not one bad band on the courtyard.
Good tunes, good company, lots of alcohol and no hangover this morning. the perfect storm of nights out.

I thoroughly enjoyed UL Fest even though I was working for the entire thing and unable to drink anything!

Winning both Boat Races in the Scholars along with the Nearly Naked Mile are definite highlights. Last, and best Rag Week ever!

Does anybody know how much was raised?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,092 ✭✭✭CiaranMT

Expected to be over €10,000 but no definite figure published yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 97 ✭✭brucechan

about a euro per student. well worth it, wouldn't you agree? the college court residents wouldn't!
actually, if you factor in the damage caused, cost of clean ups, bins broken or burned out, damage to cars, upset to residents (inc. student residents), trees uprooted, etc. its not worth it at all.

  • Registered Users Posts: 339 ✭✭roro1neil0

still, the craic had is priceless.

    How many cars were damaged?

    How many bins were burned/damaged?

How much did it cost to clean up the area?

    How many trees were uprooted?

Answer some of these before you state so emphatically that it wasn't worth it.

Groups like the Brothers of Charity, Pieta House and Rape Crisis Midwest will certainly disagree with you.

Would it not be better to take one euro out of the 72?

But then when there isn't an actual organised Charity Week, you have what happens in NUIG, where they just plan there own unofficial rag week, go on the lash for the week, create havoc and no money is raised at all.

At least by the Students Union running Charity Week, it has structured events, M&M's going around trying to keep the peace in estates etc.
AND money is raised for some great charities around .

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Jester252

We have no prove that will happen if it were cancalled. I also never said they should cancal it. What is the cost to the union to run charity week? I just find it sad that approx €1 per student is raised. You can't say the current modal is working

There is no proof it would happen, but if you take the experiences of other colleges that have cancelled it, ie NUIG it would happen.
And yes it is pretty sad that only 1 euro was raised per student.
    Actually I don't think I donated myself :(
I was up the walls all week with college work so wasn't out or around the stables/SU very much.
The collectors only really seem to target those who are socialising. Don't remember seeing any down around the Kemmy or CS Building trying to get ppl that weren't up around the courtyard!!

Galway's unofficial Rag week is evidence enough of the attitude students will take if it were cancelled here.
