    Greetings,

My girlfriend and I will be coming to Kildare town in May for a work placement for three months. We will be coming from Canada. We were wondering about accommodations in either Kildare town or another town nearby (Newbridge was mentioned to us). Will it be possible to get an apartment on either a monthly or three month lease and how likely is it (we've looked online some and haven't seen much)? If not, what might be our best option?

Neither of us drives so we will need transportation (e.g. train or bus) to get to Kildare town if we stay somewhere else. WHat options are available and how expensive are they? We did look for this information ourselves but landed up getting confused and couldn't find any prices.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is a good site for renting accomodation http://www.daft.ie/kildare/houses_to_rent/kildare/

I don't know much about transport options but there is an Arrow train that travels frequently from Dublin to Portlaoise and stops at the Kildare stations in between http://www.irishrail.ie/home/

There may also be suitable buses http://www.buseireann.ie/

If you have no transport you are better off basing yourself in kildare town, commuting from newbridge will be nuisance everyday, plus id imagine rent would be cheaper in kildare town than newbridge, thats a guess tho

sandk, can you ask your employer to help you find accomodation?

I live in the area, but we had a fire in our house last year and had to find temporary accomodation for 3 months while our house was repaired. It was very difficult -- people don't want to do a short-term lease, and the auctioneers (real estate agents) were no help at all. We couldn't get anything in Newbridge or Kildare, wound up in Kilcullen, a very nice spot but inappropriate for you if you don't drive.

In Ireland it's who you know, so perhaps your employer could put out the word out for you -- somebody's wife's best friend's son-in-law could be the one to sort you out. Or at least they could vouch for you if you do find a place and the owner is reluctant to do a short-term lease because they don't know you from Adam.

Keep your eye on daft.ie. Another possibility -- do you have a house/apt in Canada you could exchange for the 3 months? Maybe check out house exchange web sites, or post here or on other forums a thread titled "house exchange May-July, Kildare to Canada."

    Good luck

If you rent in Newbridge there is a bus that runs between the two towns and as far as the airport for two euro ...http://dublincoach.ie/

check out donnelly property services. siobhan will do her best to help you. most letting agencies can be found on daft.ie. or you could rent a room either.
newbridge would prob be better for you with no transport as has more ammineties...cinema,restaurants,shopping etc. if you were in kildare would have to be getting taxis in to newbridge for this.
there is a 2euro bus running from newbridge to kildare every hour (green or blue). also bus eireann buses frequently (red and white). can get the train/arrow either but this is prob more expensive and has a little walk from stations into towns.
    enjoy :)

Thank you for all the help everyone, it's much appreciated.

One further question regarding transportation. Does anybody have any thoughts on long term car rental? Or perhaps buying a cheap, used car then selling it back after 3 months? Are these options, either in Dublin or Kildare county?
