Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Thanks for responses guys, few other questions for ye; cost of the oestrus induction injection per cow or bottle? and also whether or not you would also use CIDR and cost of CIDR?
So basically cost of injection for heat induction and cost of CIDR and whether or not you use just the injection or combine it with CIDR?

Shocking hard to give an average figure. But for commercial breeding many Beef straws can be bought for for €10 to €15.
Our AI man charges a further €15 to put in the straw. So that equates to €25 to €30 all in first service.
Repeat is charged at €12, you can have 3 repeats then it's back to a first service again.
If you are looking for very specific, hard to get straws, you can pay crazy money for them!

Estrumate is €35 for a 10cc bottle. 10 cc will do 5 cows so its €7 a head.
I don't know the price of the CIDR.

got a price for cidr with estrumate worked out at 26 an animal plus vet call out charge. never done them myself so i was gonna watch and learn. estrumate was 70 for 20ml. Gave it to six heifers and a cow on 29/12/11 two heifers and cow ai'd yesterday another heifer today and one let with the bull this evening, seemed to not just be around yet (slight signs of heat). the others will be getting another shot and double ai. Done four more cows yesterday with estrumate reckoned i'd chance the cows although a lot of people recomend prids or cidrs. They are supposed to get better results.

Many thanks for all the info, planning on AI' ing 10 commercial sucklers, final question: How soon after calving can you start administrating estrumate?
