    Hey Irishmover,
Well done on the results! Great news for you :)
My OH got his yesterday - 7.5 listening, 6.5 reading, 7.5 writing and 9 speaking. He's pretty pee'd off that he didn't get 7 in the reading. He got an overall band score of 7.5.

Does he have to resit it again now that he didn't get 7 in reading or does your result depend on the overall band score?

Ok just read on the immigration website that yes he needed 7 in each of the 4 components :( Looks like he'll be sitting it again!! Arrrrggghhhhh

I submitted a 189 EOI last week and got invited to submit a visa application today
Before I submit do I need the Garda check first? How long would it take to get this? The Garda website is down :(

No they ask you for your health and police checks later (you can of course submit it with the application, but since they only have a limited validity, usually they come at the end of the application) If you look at the sticky there should be a link to a PDF which you use to get your garda cert.
I know I posted it in the past before

I was told by the immigration agency that I needed 8.0 in each band for my visa application to get the 60 points.

However I got an overall score of 8.0, which breaks down as 9.0, 8.0, 7.5, 7.5

Is my score counted as 8.0 or do I need 8.0 in each band? Can someone shed a little light on this please?

Unfortunately, I think I know the answer but I'm not well versed in the process.

    Fearing the worst.

Yep, I'm afraid you need an 8 in every band

Get my families full names, submit the form 80 which I forgot all about... Then have a medical December 30th and that's the case officer fully happy!

Was surprised when I received an email from one last week.

Hopefully have my residency first week of January!

    Submitted my application December 6th.

    Hi,

I am looking into the 189/190 visa at the moment.

I will finished a 3-year training contract (working in audit) to be a Chartered Accountant in October 2014. I passed the final exams this year and also have a degree and a masters in accounting. I want to apply for the visa when my contract is finished i.e. when I am qualified, so I don't think the skills assessment will be a problem.

However, in terms of work experience and the associated 5 points for 3 years experience, would anyone have a link which states whether you can claim points for the period before which you are qualified i.e. if a training contract commencing after a masters would count as 3 years experience? Alternatively, does anyone have personal experience of this?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

It's post qualification experience from what I remember so I couldn't use any experience I gained in my profession whilst studying.

If you're not qualified until after you've done those 3 years training then I wouldn't believe it would count.

My skills assessment required I showed evidence that I had post qualification experience, I got mine first time round so I'm not sure if that criteria really mattered to the assessors or whether it was a requirement. I'm sure if you gave them a quick phonecall they could help you out.

    Hi looking for advice
I have decided that I am going to go to Australia. I am a 30 old Male who has worked as a electrician. I figure its not getting better here and life is tough. So my route is to get a 417 and start a artc through the website and sit the exams to get a Australian electrical licence once I arrive. Then try get employed and sponsorship.Thing is I haven't worked as a sparkie for a few years. I am wondering what problems il will run in to because of this. Also will I have to get to Australia before I turn 31 which is the end of April. I also have two siblings in Australia both work in health, one has sponsorship(there two years) the other has been there ten years with residency. I am wondering is this beneficial to me in anyway. Any advice is helpful.

    Hi,
I was wondering if work experience in your selected sol occupation (12 months in last 24) is a mandatory requirement if you have a family sponsor for a 489 visa and have 65 points in the skillselect point test? I have a positive skills assessment but not the work experience. The 489 visa is for Victoria

Hi everyone, does anyone know can I add on a de-facto partner after I have acquired my 189 Skilled Migration Visa.

Is there any stipulations to this with regard timing? I am aware of all the requirements for de-facto relationships to be valid, just right now its not practical to add them onto the visa.

Also, has anyone done a Skills Assesment using Engineers Ireland instead of Engineers Australia? Engineers Ireland is part of the Washington Accord so i dont see why it would not be acceptable.

    Thanks

You can't add a de-facto onto a visa that has already been granted, if you are a PR then you already have been made so to speak

Your partner would be looking at a 820 Temporary partner for 2 years and then a 801 PR

She will be outside Australia, hence the unpractical nature of applying right now.

    I would think maybe a 309/100???

    809 is $$$$..:(

    Thanks btw

The thing with migration agents is that, at the end of the day it's your information that's needed, either way it's still you who has to source the information. The application process is now fully online so it's paperless and much easier to complete than before.

If you'd like to save close to $3000 I'd suggest avoiding an agent for as long as possible. There is ample information on immigration website to aid with doing it on your own. There's a nice checklist to make sure you've all the information.

I've done my 189 on my own (just waiting on a final decision now expect it this week). I haven't done defacto though which is something that may require an opinion. However, if you've got everything else done yourself then you could still keep the costs down a lot by just getting them to review your info for defacto.

If you can qualify as a quantity surveyor then you can fill out the application
Ive just applied for the 189 Visa and up until now there is nothing hard about it. I did the IELTS IN UCD, got my skills assessed by ACS then submitted the EOI, a week later I was invited to apply and just spent 4150 on the application, fingers crossed
The IELTS and Skills Assessment take some time so do them asap and together. A friend of mine works for a migration agent in Australia and told me to do the IELTS first, that wasted a lot of time, should have done both together

I wouldnt suggest to anyone to do the IELTS first. An english test is something that can be redone whenever. A Skill Assessment however is something that if you dont qualify for the first time round can take a lot of hoops to get through in order to get it the next time you apply.

Anyone got an estimation of how long it took there medical results to get sent to immigration?

Medibank informed me last Thursday that they had sent the results through. 7 working days later and my Case Officer still hasn't received them..

I needed the IELTS to get to 60 points.
I think it would be best to start the both of them together as there is a long waiting list for both

Depends on where you do the IELTS. I booked my IELTS a week in advance in Brisbane. They had plenty of spots available.

I needed IELTS to get to the 60 mark too. But remember, it's an english test. Your profession Skills Assessment is not something you can simply re-sit.

I lost out on a week in my visa process as I booked my IELTS test the day I got my Skills Assessment. Would have been a waste of money if I discovered I was a long way off getting my Skills Assessment. Was happy to lose a week if it meant I wasn't doing the IELTS for no reason.

Do both together as most likely the skills assessment would be acquired but I personally wouldn't do the IELTS first.

In hindsight though, I'd definitely have the medical done before the case officer gets in touch. It's taking the longest to go through out of anything I've done.

I was assaulted January 2013 and had to source all my medical reports from my GP in Australia. That would be the only reason why it's taking so long. But as I said, Medibank sent my results last week.

I've been in touch with the case officer today and she's informed me that the medical is still hasn't been cleared yet. I'm beginning to wonder what the **** is going on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

Just logged onto emedical and it's showing my chest xray and medical as complete and showing my HIV test incomplete. It's also showing me my specialist report (reports from GP which were sent ages ago) as referred.

Last I spoke to Medibank was Jan 9th and they had told me everything had been completed and sent to DIAC. Will have to contact Medibank Monday to find out what **** up they've made. Probably shouldn't have flown home to Ireland without having the 189 completed.

I am on a 457, but I will be applying for a 189 independant Skilled Migration Visa.

What happens if i lose my job between the time the visa is applied for and the time it is accepted. I know you can go on a bridging visa should you run out of actual visa time in the country but does my 90 day "find new sponsorship" stipulation come into play even though im in the middle of applying for PR?

Once you apply for the 189 visa you will be granted a Bridging Visa A, however this does not come into effect until your 457 expires. If you leave your job, your 457 and bridging visa A will be cancelled and you will go onto a Bridging visa E with no work rights.

You could claim hardship and try to resume work rights but its very discretionary and not guaranteed.
