If this exam was marked on tagging/ highlighting your notes I'd be grand! All my pages are so colourful I'm in the wrong profession

I agree we should have to present our folders and get a competent it Business Leadersip for them looking so pretty with all the colours :D

In other news, I have the fear for Management Accounting I reckon that will be the computational one this year they haven't asked anything computational on it yet.

was just looking at the Mock 2012 comp there

Software as a service - wtf??

anybody know where this is referenced in the IMP book??

would be really handy if these bloody books had an index at the back like most books!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭ferike1

    Just wikipedia it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_as_a_service

It is referenced like once near the section on cloud computing. It is an absolute disgrace that it doesn't have an index. Seriously WTF.

Mentioned briefly on page 89 and 102! But in no way that would have helped answer the Q

Wasn't it a software firm as well that we were working for? With the accountant advising on platforms and software? Like walking on to a movie set and sitting in the director's chair, when the extent of your movie making experience is a few crap vids on youtube.

I understand the need to be aware of other issues, such as if you advise on making 20 people redundant to save costs you need to be aware that there are HR/employment law issues - but you seek specialist advice!

    *Eye roll*

I wish it was this time next week.

have pplse spent any time looking at the aca code of ethics? or are they even bothering to bring it into the exam? just very long and sure I have the time (or will!) to look at it!
know someone said here before that you can just reference the ethical standards so hoping that will be enough?
    what do pple think?

I watched an audit lecture on this last night and he stated that you definately have an option on which way you answer it - code of ethics or the insititue code, but you dont need both, even for core. he also advised that the code of ethics (ES1-5) are a better option , so I definately wouldnt recommend reading both

Is there any good variance questions in cases that people have come by? Have a feeling we might get it somewhere in the exams?

I'm not doing anything on variances really other than know how to interpret them if they give you a list of variances, I cant see them asking us to calculate them out tbh

but Drumview in the MBAF book has a worked out question on it, the solution gives the formulaes and then interprets them, giving possible reasons for the variances, might be worth tabbing just in case

Having a look again at the mock 2012 sims, and panicking a little that I still - even with the solutions in front of me - cannot get my head around the Stakabin case at all. eek.gif

Do I need to be scared???

The inventory calcs in particular are pickling my wee head.

Would love to be in that position supernova mucker. I only got off work last Friday and feel like I still have a mountain to climb. I go from feeling really organised and confident one day to being in a complete tizz the next (like today!).

    Re: 5829000 on Thorpe Clinic

By far the worst case Ive attempted. Was so tired of it by the end. €5829000 is the 425000 surplus Alasdair calculated + Year 1 to Year 5v Contribution from additional testing income i.e 425000+ 490000+674000+ 955000+ 1354000+1931000 = 5829000 (I hope!)

    Help!

CAP 1 income tax notes for this year say that as of 1 January 2011, all Revenue-approved share option schemes will be taxed like unapproved share option schemes and as such there aren't any benefits anymore.

But in the Core mock 2012, to get Competent on the tax indicator in comprehensive you needed to advise somebody to start up a share option scheme in order to give tax benefits to their employees!

    Which is right?

Revenue approved schemes are a dead duck. The conditions were too onerous so companies never bothered with them.

I think that the 2012 Mock is just saying that unapproved share options are a tax efficient way to reward employees 'cause there's no up front tax cost (the tax arises for the employee at exercise rather than grant).

    Figured it out.
Std price of p170 is 310 (given)
Last paragraph of first page says they want to earn 10% more for extras on Ps
    So extra is 10% * 310=31

Staff costs have been consistently 10% more than standard. So need to adjust standard labour costs.
    P170 labour costs are 2hrs*€40=€80
    So 80*10%= 8

Then not sure where the final cost of extra comes from

    Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone in the same situation as myself.

I am way behind on the case studies. Still have a load to go over.
Probably (Definetly!!!) started them too late and also took too long doing them and going over the answers in the first couple of weeks has put me in this situation, but anyway that is water under the bridge at this stage/

Would regard my knowledge generally good enough (but nowhere near confident of passing obviously) and happy at tackling case studies at this stage, but still want to go over specific items.

Tryin to decide whether to go hammer and tongs at the cases and just basically read them and reference them up or still attempt them for another couple of days and then focus on technical areas for Sun/Mon without getting to the end of the cases....

    Any input would be great.

I'm not going to get all the cases done either, not going to try either. would prob focus on exam papers and mocks if you don't have all them done already... i'm at elective with past few day but going to have to go back to the core tomor.. joys.

Are people just doing the new fae exam papers or doing the old style ones too?

I am grinding the papers up and injecting them directly into my bloodstream via an IV.

To be honest what came up in 2010 and 2011 won't come up again in the same way so I don't know how beneficial it is to look at those papers now. Only to know which parts were answered poorly such as Ethics and CG, and also beware that there be a strategic/business plan thrown in this year as in 2010 it was answered poorly. That's my view. Please add if you have a different view point.

I'm just going to review my notes Friday and Saturday and take off Sunday and Monday as I believe it is vital to be well rested prior to these exams as they'll be mentally draining. There isn't much we can do at this stage. You either know it or you don't. I wouldn't think much information will go in between here and Tuesday.

Let's hope the cases are favourable!!
