Is there any software out there that can tell me which wired / wireless devices have accessed my router and how much data was transferred (up and down) per device (mac address)?

    I don't think my router is capable of doing this - it's a TP LINK TL-WR841N / TL-WR841ND 300M

    How about this?

I use it to track my usage and I find it great...

Edit: It's not free, but it's not expensive and I think it was totally worth it.

Let us know how you get on?

That's fine for just monitoring the bandwith on 1 PC (I use dumeter for that BTW and have done so for many years :)) but I need something (installed on 1 PC) that monitors all data coming in and out of my router per device (including phones on wifi, tvs, laptops, etc. etc.)

    Looking at their simulator
    http://www.tp-link.com/simulator/841_v5/index.htm
it looks like there's no support for telnet / ssh / snmp so short answer is no.

*** This option is fairly likely turn your router into a doorstop, experimenting on an ebay purchased router might be preferable ***

There is the openwrt firmware replacement option with something like gargoyle to turn the router into a linux box with prettified GUI, giving full access to logs. All existing logs and configs / wpa keys will be removed.

    OpenWRT from
    http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr841nd
    http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/

    then Gargoyle UI

Thanks ressem, I'll look into that :)

BTW I've overwritten firmware in hundreds of devices in my day and I only ever (semi) bricked one - a router!

I've no great need in monitoring the traffic, was just wondering if there was any software monitoring router activity that could do it

Apologies, didn't mean to patronise, just since OpenWRT isn't provided by the manufacturer, but by a high skilled community, a small undocumented hardware change could leave you with a non working router and no support.

    You could use
    http://seleniumhq.org/

to automate a browser lookup at regular intervals and download the system tools \ statistics. Then use a script to throw together the results.
