This year Dublin University Rifle Club is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club in its current form. To mark the occasion we will be holding a series of events throughout the year for members, alumni and friends of the club. The highlight of these will be a weekend of celebrations on the 10th, 11th and 12th of February. This will include:

    Friday
Book launch and reception in the GMB, Trinity College. The book is a history of Dublin University Rifle Club by Dr. Emma Lyons.

    Saturday
Range day at Hilltop Shooting Club
Gala dinner at Fallon and Byrne. This will be the flag ship event of the Golden jubilee year.

    Sunday
Light lunch at the Pavilion bar, Trinity College.

We would be delighted by your attendance at these events, especially the Gala dinner. Further details including a booking form are available at www.durcjubilee.com. Please do not hesitate to contact us by email (info@durcjubilee.com) if you have any queries. We recommend early booking as there is a limited number of tickets.

Many thanks to those who have now booked their places at the various Jubilee Weekend events. Don't forget: It's THIS WEEKEND! We are really looking forward to seeing everyone over the weekend and it will be a great series of events.

For anyone who has NOT YET booked their places, we will be confirming final numbers to the venues in the coming days, so if you do intend attending any one of the events but haven't yet booked your place, time is running out!

Get booking those last minute places now! You know you want to!

In order to avoid disappointment, all bookings must be made and payments received by, at latest, 5:30pm this Wednesday afternoon, 8th February 2012.

Anyone planning to attend the Gala Dinner on Saturday MUST ensure that
they have booked their place and paid for their ticket before this Wednesday's deadline: Bookings received after 5:30pm on Wednesday cannot be processed and your attendance at the Gala Dinner may not be facilitated.

Please spread the word to anyone who STILL needs to book a ticket - The Clock is Ticking to get those last-minute bookings made before Wednesday!

Again, thanks to all who have already confirmed their attendance. We'll see you at the Weekend for all the celebrations!

Walked into Hilltop just as they were getting scores back, fair big gang of ye so it looks like a good turnout on the day. And don't worry ladies - I did notice ye ;-)

I don't usually enjoy the photos of the dinners and the tuxes, but feck it, how often do you see a 50th anniversary for a shooting club? Especially one that's basicly been run by teenagers for teenagers (with some help from folks in their very early 20s) for all that time (and it turns out for quite a bit longer - the club was originally founded in the 1840s and ran until the civil war, which shut it down for a few years before it restarted). I tell you, if you tried to start it today, they'd look at you like you needed professional help...

So, the book launch for the history (which technically isn't quite ready yet, but will be properly released later this year):

Looking through the book so far...

(Incidentally, if you think you recognise that room despite never having gone to TCD, you probably do, but it looked a wee bit different at the time, it was the lecture room in Educating Rita)

And the gala dinner. Honestly, I didn't think half these miscreants knew how to get into a monkey suit. Well. An actual monkey suit, I'd have had no doubts at all about :D And yet, they scrubbed up well enough! And it was quite nice to see all the old faces there as well - I was particularly happy to run into the chap who originally taught me to shoot nearly twenty years ago.
