    Hi BigBadDom,

We regret to read of your unhappiness with the approach in question, but it is necessary to comply with it for Data Protection reasons - and to eliminate the possibility of the call being taken by someone who is not the account-holder. Sometimes relatives of customers can understandably be under the impression that they are authorised to discuss their relation's account, but it may not be the case - e.g. there would need to be a note on the account indicating this, but it may not have been given by the account-holder (even if the account-holder is happy for their relative to discuss the account, the authorisation has to be recorded on the account following contact coming from the account-holder giving this permission).

If you would like us to advise in relation to your Electric Ireland account here on Boards.ie, do private message us your account details if you wish (state that you are the account-holder, the account number in question, address and telephone number or date of birth).

We can set up payment plans here on Boards.ie also, if a customer is not in a position to pay a bill in full by the due date two weeks from issue of the bill.

    Una

I understand it's Data protection, but it comes down to this. If you have to ask that question, then don't call in the first place. If I'm over due, then post me a letter. It worked in the past.  Here's what you do (expect an invoice in the post for this suggestion) call or write urging people to call your FREE (not this lo call nonsense) customer service line, then we'll give the info as we are making the approach, otherwise, it just rubs people up the wrong way.

    Hi again BigBadDom,

If a customer contacts us before the payment due date on the bill and sets up a payment plan (this can be for a minimum of a one-week deferral, up to a maximum of eight weeks of installments, once there's that much of a window up to the next bill) this will eliminate the calls completely, as it is effectively changing the due date of the bill to a later one.

    Regards,
    Una
