My ancient system was turned off when I went away on Christmas Day and refused to turn on the following day when I came back. So I've decided it's time to build a new system. As I haven't really been following CPUs religiously for a couple of years, I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a decent motherboard and CPU (Intel's i5-2500 seems to get good reviews?), or suggest a good site for more information. I'm hoping to build a mid-range system, not bleeding edge but good enough to play current games without any problems.

So far all I've picked is a case! :)

I like the Zalman Z9 case, probably going to go with that.

    Here's the form questions:

    1. What is your budget?
    [up ~ €500]

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? General gaming and multimedia

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? Yes, I'm basically planning to buy case/CPU/cooler/motherboard/memory/GPU, have other bits to re-use

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [19'/20'/22'/24'/etc.]

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future?
    [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.] No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Yes

    8. How can you pay? Whatever's necessary

    9. When are you purchasing? Within the next week or two

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Self-build

Also, would people favour HardwareVersand or Overclockers to buy from?
