There's a timber yard across the road from the Ashdown Park Hotel, beside Aldi,it's the cheapest place around that I've seen for firewood.

Thats them all right. The load we got are wet mind you we dont mind as we are burning them in Stove so they can spit all they want. I dont like burning the dry stuff as it burns away to quickly i think.

Logs to burn, logs to burn,
Logs to save the coal a turn
Here's a word to make you wise,
When you hear the woodman's cries.
Never heed his usual tale,
That he has good logs for sale,
But read these lines and really learn,
the proper kind of logs to burn.

OAK logs will warm you well,
If they're old and dry.
LARCH logs of pine wood smell,
But the sparks will fly.

BIRCH logs will burn too fast,
CHESTNUT scarce at all
HAWTHORN logs are good to last,
If you cut them in the fall

But ASH logs, all smooth and grey,
burn them green or old;
Buy up all that come your way,
They're worth their weight in gold.

umm you realise its not a good idea to burn wet timber in a stove.
get ready for a ruined chimney

You really need to know your timber and make sure you get what you pay for .

There are many types of firewood on the market and the main ones are :
• Softwood logs ( cut down and sold immediately
• Air-Dried logs ( softwood - seasoned over 2 years )
• Hardwood ( cut down and sold immediatly )
• Kiln-Dried Hardwood ( less than 20% moisture )
If you pay for hardwood , make sure you receive hardwood .

What was the quality like Navarre? was it wet? did you get what you paid for i.e. was it all Hardwood and not a mixture?

Most people don't know the difference between hardwood and softwood , especially if the logs are well seasoned .

Some of those garages don't even know what they are buying , and some could well be buying a mixture of spruce / pine without realising its softwood .
