Love bangernomics me!

bought this last year as a test failure with a months test left on it for 250 euro. spent about another 150 on it, and it flew through the retest! its a gift on diesel, and its never let me down!

What mileage is on yours, those things go for ever with a little tlc.

As far as extras and comforts go, i can see quite a bit cup holder, an extra large velour lined cubby space and... a VW premium price tag.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't see how a 14 year old Golf with 166,000 miles on the clock is a bargain @ €1300.

If you were doing a good few hundred miles a week and needed a car to do it in for small money that returns 50mpg ish it might well be a bargain. In fairness the mileage isn't too high at all for a 13 year old car and it looks straight. A small few quid haggled off and 'twouldn't be a bad buy if it's sound and straight.

Considering most vag diesels of that era are clocked i would pay little heed to mileage.

You can't really say that in fairness. You have no idea of the mileage of all VAG cars in Ireland from 98 onwards. If I was a betting man I'd say the mileage is genuine.

clould be as simple as an airlock...

ya I checked it, it wasnt that awfully low, about 3/4 full if not more. And I wouldnt have the first clue how to diagnose an airlock :-P

I think you've missed by point in any case. i didn't say that Golf is clocked, what I said and meant was that most low mile, ie. around the 10 to 12 year old mark with 100ish k mules on them are clocked, so buying one with high, genuine miles wouldn't make it worth any less.

I know for a fact there are lots and lots of clocked cars out there, infact theres a guy around here that makes an absolute fortunw out of doing it. It goes on wholesale and its gettjng harder and harder to detect.

Thia thread isnt a place for discussion on this, though.

I have no doubt that there are lots of clocked cars out there. You can't turn around however and say that ''most TDI's with around 100k miles are definitely clocked'' because that just isn't true and you can't know that.

its probably a thirsty bastard and it looks a little clapped out but a wash and a polish would do wonders for it i'd say. If you weren't going far it could be good.
