I know it's be said over and over, but humour me, this is the first one that is a reasonable price, near me.

What should I be on the look out for with something like this?

Oil changes every 6k miles, absolutely perfect sounding engine and after buying you should get the sump dropped.

    This is what you do.

Sit in and start the car. Open both window slightly and blip the throttle up up about 2500-3500 revs.

Listen, if there if no evident rattle from the top of the engine you're in the money. If there is, stay away.

If you're going to view it I can give you my number and you can ring me, I'll listen over the phone.

I can only imagine seller's reaction to this. Kind of funny, would that really work? Have you ever done this before LM?

Well I can hear the rattle from a mile away but no, I've never done it over the phone.

A friend of mine (My Saab friend) went to Dublin to buy a Saab 95 with his mother last week. First three he went to had the rattle and the fourth didn't, which he bought. Absolutely beautiful black, 02 9-5 vector with 17's and full leather etc. Really sweet car, and sans rattle.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Cheap for a Yaris maybe (they're grossly overvalued) but a Micra same year condition etc. of half that price would be more reliable and overall would need less maintenance

That Alpha is gorgeous. Would 34mpg be achievable? Thats more than im getting from a 1.6 corolla. Flippin tax puts it outa my reach :-(

Wasn't on my old 1.8 t-spark. It may have been possible but what's the point in having an Alfa and driving the way you'd need to in order to achieve that mpg?

  • Registered Users Posts: 634 ✭✭✭JustLen

Very true indeed. Im just wondering if its possible, sounds very optomistic

I would say it's not possible.

Maybe, maybe you'd get close to that doing 80km/h in top gear on the motorway!

    Maybe 166man could chime in?

Lovely motor, the noise those 6 cylinders make is unreal...want it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Oh wio wayo! Now that's a nice bus for your bangernomics buck.

Id say on a run 34mpg would be achievable, cork to Dublin return at mainly motorway speeds my yoke returns 30mpg, a 6 speed manual would have to be a tad better, can't see 6th being anything but tall :)

Absolutely. If it's all clean then it's a very nice machine for the money,

^^^There you go Alan... Personally you haven't a hope of averaging 34mpg, try 24mpg...:D

I said on a run, not an average ;)

All too true, I find that 6th on a non sporty (Fiat group) car is for economy.

My 166 has a 5 speed and it returns approx 22mpg average... Long run I have to find out but either way an expensive venture :p but it's a much heavier car and that has to be taken into account :)

The E34 returns a lot more with an autobox! :pac:

Has anyone noticed the prices on Donedeal seem higher than say the Evening Echo free ads (I assume there is a Dub equivalent)?

I was looking through it on tuesday last, and there was a lot more interesting stuff I felt, less traders too I think.
