Memories, my mother used to own that one. I'd query the mileage on it though, It was an ex-rental that came from Boland's. The original wheels were 16 inch ones as well.

E34's are the sex. Although a 4 pot one is a bit like a asmathic trying to inflate a baloon through a straw.

what are the 406 like? I want a hdi its either going to be one of these or a van. My 206 got rear ended at the weekend by a truck :(

I had one, and can vouch that it was probally one of the best cars I have ever owned.
Superb car and a very reliable engine. The lift pump (under the rear seat) on top of the fuel tank will go but thats about it. Check for cluck wear at those miles (147k I think). My father had 2 of them and put over a quater of a million miles on one of them.
Listen for knocks from the suspension, they wear rear bushings fairly quickly but these are cheap to fix.
If you could knock a few quid off the asking price and the suspension isn't in tatters from the Sligo roads, you could be on a winner. I like the colour too.

There are so many bangernomics E34 and E39 5-series for sale and you point to a 518, the only ever 4 pot petrol one?

Yeah the E34 is great car. Not a 518i though. I had a 530i V8. That was more like it ;)

You serious? I thought that there would've been more interest in that, given the fact that its life and routine care has been will documented on other forums. Excellent pictures. Silly question after your purchase today but will you miss the VW??

FFS, ... made me laugh :)

MB - yup. nothing. Fokkem. It's staying at that price 'til it shifts.

edit.. and no, won't be missed given it's replacement :)

I was after contacting the seller before it went on bangernomics, knew it was a matter of time! Its hard to believe its 11 years old, and the pictures don't even do it justice!

The seller had at least 10 calls but none could make it till Saturday.. exept me!

    Thanks for all the congratulations!

Who said Ireland was a nation of begrudgers?! not true...

Looks like you too got an almost like new car for next to nothing money :D

Not sure why you didn't haggle though? Even if you didn't really need the money, it would have been better of giving it to charity rather than giving it to the seller.

    LOL!
I spent 10 minutes with my brother in law inspecting every inch of the car, not a scratch, and then we drove it on to the motorway and couldn't find a rattle or knock , driving straight and not a wobble at 120kph (and a little more!)..
The seller presented me with a gift of a kit bag, with foil blanket, torch, cloths, jump leads, reflective gear, Sat nave, etc etc...
Then they brought us in for tea to sign the reg form..

    How could I haggle!!??

Great buy, Drove one of these for years. Great car and will get decent MPG outta that 1.8, mine was nearly identical to this. Their a VDI engine (Mitsubishi unit) Keep an eye on the oil every now n then. And the valves in mine choked up periodically which was a common issue, helped a lot to give her a bit of lint up the motorway when you get the chance. (you'll know if it'll do this if the engine ticks when running sounding like tappets, but its no biggie)

Real Comfort Wagon. Well wear :)
