Lads the Jag is long gone and I've a company van now so... I need a petrol car.

Now, has to be a saloon. Preferably silver. And metallic.

Budget is a max of 2 grand, I'd like to be able to buy and drive and sell for as little depreciation as possible.

    2.0 preferably, might go to a 2.5.

    2.5 is a stretch, ie . I won't be stretching to a 3.0 litre.

Wouldn't be opposed to a facelift 156 2.0, with leather etc.

    Volvo S60 2.0T.

'Tis a fairly sh1t ad, but it might be a good car, under budget. Might be able to bag it for €1500 notes.

Also slightly left field but a bit pricey too. Nice car though ....

    Toibfar left field.

No Volvos or Saabs, as fine a car the S60 is it looks very dated.

I'd also prefer NA over turbo (less hassle).

High asking price leaves a bit of work to be done. 190 brake though. Well worth 12 -1500 quid I say.

Mileage doesn't matter, it's condition and service history you buy one on. Mine strictly didn't come with an S/H but there were plenty of receipts scattered all over the car for various visits to the garage, so I'm happy enough :)

    Things to watch out for:
    • T Belt (self explanatory)
    • Suspension bushes: These cars are heavy on them. Can be costly (£90 for a miserable control bush?) lucky that other manufacturers pieces fit eg some Mercedes components fit at the back!
    • Front wheel bearings: mostly on the V6 cars, they wear out
    • DMF: mostly V6 again :(
    • Sportronic box: Grand and dandy when working well but if you get a leak in the cabin, the unit bites the dust as its at the passengers feet
    • Headlights: Are worse than ueless!
    • ICS: make sure you have the code with it!!!
    • Warning lights: silly gremlins such as the airbag light are caused by duff conectors
    • Radiator: If its losing coolant, that's most likely the reason

Worth it though, it's one of the nicest cars I've ever driven

Gonna be a while. Just off loaded the 3 Series Touring, her indoors is still in the 9-3 Aero, a freind of mine is currently driving another one of my bangers, I'm kinda weighing up a machine as a cheap track day car and we're all off on a very expensive trip next summer. Thats before I get my 900 Coupe back from my mate and the few jobs it needed doing. He's only been at it a year now :D Oh she's already told me she wants an Alfa GT to replace the Saab so no pressure there then :p

That Subaru Legacy has no service history, and no record or markings on timing belt being changed.

According to the sales guy yesterday.

I trader mate of mine once had one of these for sale and had to get it tested for the new owner. How many fail items came up in the test? 3,10, 20 maybe! Nope 67. He still laughs when we bring it up. :p

An Auto petrol Octavia is probably not at the top of many christmas lists..!
But, low miles, 2 owners, plenty of test, T/B done and pretty clean looking.

Manual 240 or not at all. The 240 is the one to look for. They grew fatter with more accessories for the American market so hence the 260 and 280 to compensate for electric windows and ac etc.
240 all the way although you will find hens teeth faster than an unmolested rust free genuine Irish 240z.
A user on here has a mint (280) zcar. That example, listed here, with wrong plate looks rough.

Good solid enough engine with good remap potential. It's grey but it's got reasonable miles and is well under budget. Plenty of customising potential too.
