When I worked in a factors the rep for Hella and Sonax had one of them as a company car, he got a job with 3M than and got a 156 off them iirc.

    Price drop from €2250

Tax till end of the year..

    FSH

    Bargain of the year?

Is the GDI engine the only drawback?

I wonder if its an accidentally on purpose typo and was really taxed until 12/11

That seller is defo a trader, you'd think he'd potter around in it while 'tis taxed.

    Nope..

12/12 pics of tax disc on carzone..
I nearly bought it last week but picked a different v40 with the volvo engine rather than the Mitsubishi lump..

Just wondering if anyone has experience of the GDI engine & box?

its not nearly as bad as some would have you believe. a friend has 200+ on his. regular servicing and very little goes wrong really. good mp from that 1.8 too.

"The car has recently had tyres fitted, is recently serviced, new alternator belt, oil change etc. 159K miles and NCT'd 3/12" €1550. Cork. Looks quite legit, no trace of number when searched and pictures are far from professional. Well worth a look I'd say?

Ring the seller, ask him go out to the car and rev the engine and put the phone out near it.

if you hear a rattle, stay in your seat, if not, if it came for 1000-1100, maybe. Wouldn't be excited at 1550 tbh.

Would love to give this a go... Not to everyone's taste but I like 'em..!

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2766408

Something similar, but a little more realistic on the tax front..!

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2884297

    Both nice low milage examples.

Don't get me wrong, not excited at paying €1550 either. But that's just the asking price I've quoted here for the benefit of lazy Boardsies! But I would be excited by Saabs, yes. Advice appreciated though.

Long test on her, no mention of mileage though.

what do you's generally think when you google the phone number for a seller and it turns out they sell alot of cars privately? avoid?

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,455 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Generally means they haven't a clue about the cars past. You can tell a lot about a car from the owner and their house,

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,269 ✭✭✭Piriz

yea was thinking the same thanks.. however; if the car had a year nct would you still care? what has the sellers house got to do with anything?

There's no mention of service history. If these engines haven't been fed fully synth oil every 6k miles throughout their lives they can go boom anytime. Worth the risk if you pay peanuts for it, but at €1,5k you'd need to be fairly confident it won't happen

Bought mine ('01) last year with very low miles (77k) and plenty of service history in excellent condition for €1,350. Just serviced by Saab with discs, brakes, breather kit (>€2k ), just NCTd

Now that turned out to be a pretty sweet deal, won't find one like that again too soon, but I'm with LM here - no history, sure it's worth a gamble. For hundreds rather than thousands...

Just gut feeling stuff. If its in a state, then maintainance on the car well may have been overlooked too. It's not a foolproof system but it's certainly more reliable than putting your trust in a small time tax dodger who has his sales technique perfected and would say mass to get the money out of your pocket

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,455 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Don't care how crap they are, this is an 04 car for €800 with 43000 miles and nct till may 2013
