Dunno what he's on about either, unless he prefers manual S types

    Maybe its the tape deck???

In my opinion I prefer cars that have the ORIGINAL tape decks/ CD players in them. When I see a new cd player with all the bells and whistles in the dash, it just messes with the look of it......What I call..... "it throws the eye off"

So if I did buy a bangernomic that had a tape player I'd be the sort of person that would leave it in..... and mount the cd unit in the glovebox.

Now I'm off to look at some 7-8 seaters.

but43r, what am I missing? What's wrong with the circled section?

Showing your age you lot. Need to brush up on your interment memes.
He is implying that the dash area circled resembles the open mouth and vents the eyes..

I'm pretty confident that one owner that can keep a Fiat, actually ANY car!, going for 200k kms knows what they're doing all the same!

Looks like very good value for €550 (asking €650), if you like autos. RWD, too. Presume its a UK import.

What are they like in general?
I thought the same myself when I saw that car. For €650, you can't go too far wrong imo but it all depends how the suspension is. They can get fairly lurchy and bouncy afaik.
mpg and the badge probally puts people off. If it was 2 to 3 months later on this year, I'd buy it.

I agree with you..short journeys = more engine wear than if same mileage was covered by longer journeys.

Im just wondering why would Renault specify a two year service interval?

All car manufacturers are at it now. Its all about pleasing fleet managers who run cars from years 1 to 4 max and who do exactly what is asked of them by service guidelines. On the face of it, the car seems top notch! When it gets to bangernomics territory, age or miles wise, it will be more worn than a car where basic servicing is done in advance of recommended service intervals, taking account of miles and operating conditions.

I change oil and all engine filters on trusty Xantia every 6-10K miles. Its very cheap, its very re-assuring. Now don't get me wrong, modern quality engine oils don't break down or anything like that. The idea is to get wear and contaminants out of the engine!

ps NEVER let any (so-called) mechanic lazily suck out your used engine oil via the engine oil inlet cap. That takes out OK oil and leaves heavy contaminants in the sump!! New sump nut or you're at nothing.

What about some engines without sump plugs? Didn't Renault produce a megane diesel without one?

Looks like the buyer got cold feet. Contrary to popular belief, there are bad LS400/430s out there. Puts me off it anyway.

Don't you just take the sump off then? Laborious, yes, but you'd get all the crap out.

Bit of Tax, bit of NCT, SDI and 800euro. Looks like legit milage. Could be a good runabout... Go to the local chippie and run it off veg oil if you're stuck for fuel. :p

Its a long shot but could be the original seller, might have been bombarbed with calls when it was at €2000 and decided to up the price.

More likely to be someone who just fancies a bit of serious luxury driving for a while, hoping to sell it off before too long.

    It's a Toyota Celsior

    Toyota steering wheel
    No leather
    Square number plate
    Random boot badge arrangement

They got corolla drawings and pressed A4->A3 on the copier, didn't they.

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,455 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

When you look at the rear 3/4 picture, you see just how generic Japanese it is.

Remember my first time driving an LS400, it was in for a service, had to take it 20 miles up the road, got stopped by the cops, and only then realised that the owner hadn't taxed or nctd it. Forgot to bring my trade plates.

    Hairy moment.

Same thing though only the Toyota doesn't get that horid, gash Japanese leather that the Koreans wont use......well when I say leather!

  • Registered Users Posts: 73,455 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Lexus used genuine leather in most cases though. The sc430 has a tag hanging from the seat to tell you they're real.

No leather in a barge just isn't right.
