I was watching an old episode of fith gear on Dave the other day.

They did a head on crash test between this car and a Renault Modus at 40mph.

The Volvo was absolutely destroyed… the Modus occupants where fine.

2 car designs from 2 different decades.........

not really familiar with these but here goes :

low in years, leather, Test, low miles - ticks many boxes. Odd wheel trims though - odd as in not matching.

I presume the point is that any car from the 90's would come out worse for wear against that Renault.

That's very harsh to generalise like that now.

Production of the Volvo 940 ran from 1990 to 1998 and matter of fact, just 2 years after the launch of the 940, the Volvo 850 was launched containing 7 new patents on crash safety measures.

Of course a 90's car safety standards aren't as good as a car that is from the late '00's or 10's. There's 20 years of development inbetween.

Strange spending €900 on tax and selling the car on less than two months later.

    I agree with you.

Any 90s car was a bit of a generalization. I'd say most 90s, particularly early 90s would struggle vs. the Renault.

Would probably take it with less than a grand.

Probably, if you wait a bit longer. :D I remember this add from early December and it was advertised for €1200 then. It's for sale quite a bit.
I'm currently looking for Omega but estate version. Need for my summer trip.

A Volvo V70 with NCT til October for only €495.

Only 112k also. Looks ok to me:

Although a few more pics would do no harm.

a proper bangernomics wild card here! forgive my maths (if i'm wrong) but it has literally lost 98% of its value, plummeting from 114k to 2k.

spec including DVD player, double glazing and self closing doors!

For the third time being mentioned here too. I think It was up for ~2k gone, then re-advertised for less, gone again and now here again.
Same photos every time so chances are that the seller is the same.
    duno tbh......

That's been up before...can't remember if its the same guy or not.

And its asking price is €250 more than the original seller was looking for!

Quoting my own post here, but there's better pics put up now, it looks pretty good except for 2 small dings above the rear drivers-side arch.

    Very tempted..........

Great value alright, pity I wasn't closer, 'cause I'd love to ask him "who's driveway is it blocking?"
I wonder what the inside is like.....

Ah now, I wouldn't loose too much sleep over two small dents on the rear wheel arch. Not when were talking an asking price of €495. The main thing is that the car is mechanically pretty sound with no expensive repair or maintenance bills looming on the horizon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,699 ✭✭✭Brian

It's NCT'd? Half tempted to buy it myself :D

I agree 100%, wouldn't loose much sleep over a couple of dings either.

I was just pointing it out to peeps :)
