Check out Shark Rankings - it's live right now!

It's barely 2012, but the Irish Poker year has kicked off in style with the first ever World Poker Tour event on these shores attracting well over 300 players to the Citywest Hotel this weekend.

SharkRankings.com will be tracking the progress of the entire poker community this year, whether you plan bluffing your way to an Irish Open final table, play once a week in your local club or just play online in the comfort of your own home.

Next week will see the launch of SharkRankings.com which will include the latest ranking ladders for National, Club and Online Events as well as complete listing for all ranking events across all established clubs, festivals and sites in the country. All games since 1st January 2012 will be included in the ladders.

This weekend's inaugural Irish WPT will be another first, SharkRankings.com will be issuing their first ever National Rankings points, and a name will appear at the top of the leaderboard when it is published for the first time next week.

While it might be too late for you, at least for this year, to lift the WPT trophy and the the €200,000 first prize that goes with it, you can see yourself firmly at the top of a leaderboard on their publication next week by taking part and hopefully winning the nightly €33 deepstack freezeout tournament held on IrishEyesPoker.com at 8:15pm every night from Monday, 9th January 2012.

Shark Rankings players can avail of a first deposit bonus of 100% match to your first deposited amount up to €1,000* (*paid out after 30 days at a rate of €10 per 200 vip points earn in that period). Just enter 'sharkrankings' as a signup code at registration or click here to register

    SharkRankings.com - Frequently Asked Questions

What are the differences between the different ranking ladders?
There will be four separate types of ranking ladder available on Shark Rankings. A National ranking ladder, an overall Online ranking ladder, an overall Club ranking ladder and individual ranking ladders for each club/online site.

    Club / Site Ladder
The individual club/site ranking ladder will incorporate points won from tournaments run within the club/site only. This ladder will be used to crown a club/site champion for each of the participating member clubs/sites.

    Overall Club Ladder
The overall Club ranking ladder incorporates points won from live tournaments run within participating clubs only. This ranking ladder is a reflection of the top live players playing in clubs around the country.

    Online Ladder
The overall Online ranking ladder incorporates points won from online ranking tournaments run within participating online sites only. This ranking ladder is a reflection of the top online players.

    National Ladder
The National ranking ladder includes points won from specific tournaments that are marked as being national events. These include, but not limited to, poker festivals such as the WPT Ireland, UKIPT, IPO and Irish Open and a single tournament per month for each of the participating member clubs and sites. National ranked events do not count towards any of the other ranking ladders.

Can I combine my ranking points from live and online events?
No. Each of the ranking ladders are treated separately and players qualify for the prize tournament(s) via each of the four main ladders. If you play online and live you can be effectively represented on four different ranking ladders with four separate ranking totals.

How do you calculate the ranking points for each event?
Ranking points are based on three factors – the number of players, your finishing position and the effective buy-in for each ranking event. The effective buy-in is calculated as follows: Total Prize Pool / Number of Players. Based on these three criteria we have developed the following formula to generate points.
    Formula = (10 * SQRT(Total Players) * (1 + CUBERT(Effective Buy-in))) / SQRT (Position)
The top 10% of the field will be awarded ranking points, with a minimum of three players receiving points.
We feel that this formula although rewarding players for going deep in large events also ensures that no one event has an unfair advantage over the others.
However, only a player’s best ranking score within a calendar week (Monday-Sunday) or during a designated festival will count towards their ranking position. This is to ensure that merely playing often will ensure a high ranking position. Shark rankings are designed to find the best players based on skill.

Do I get ranking points for all listed events?
The Shark Rankings website lists all the events, across all the ranking ladders, that are eligible for ranking points. However, only your best result in a calendar week or during a designated festival will count towards your ranking position. This is to reduce the variance for players who play far more often than the average.

Does any money come out of each tournament towards the various prizepools?
No, there is no additional charge for any player wishing to participate in the Shark Rankings. All the Shark Rankings freerolls and prizes are generated by the clubs and online sites either through subscriptions or revenue share.

    How is Shark Rankings funded?
Shark Rankings does not charge any addition fee to participating players. All prizes and freerolls are funded through subscriptions, revenue shares and fees received from the live poker clubs and the online poker networks.

Do I have to submit my results myself?
No. All results are updated by Shark Rankings based on results received from the participating clubs and online sites.

How do I qualify for the €10,000 freeroll and other prizes?
The €10,000 freeroll takes place after the end of the calendar year once the final ranking events have been completed. Players will qualify for the freeroll based on their positions on the four main ranking ladders.
All you have to do to secure your seat is to qualify based on the one of the following criteria:
Finish in the top ten of the National Live Rankings, or
Finish in the top ten of the Overall Online Rankings, or
Finish in the top ten of the Overall Club Rankings, or
Win your own Club's Ranking ladder, or
Win your Poker Site's Ranking ladder

What if my club isn’t involved in Shark Rankings?
Only participating clubs will have their tournaments listed as ranking events. If your club is not listed then ask them to contact Shark Rankings for information how to participate.
What if I notice a mistake in the results or ranking points?
All effort is given to ensure that all results and ranking points awarded are accurate. If you notice a mistake or have a query regarding results or points then email results@sharkrankings.com with details of your query and we’ll investigate immediately.
