    Background:

Working in the same place for the last 5 years on a secondment. My hours were always 9-4 mon-Friday.

A few people handed in their notice and I was told today that on my contract renewal, which is in a few weeks time, that I will have to work an extra 5 hours per week.

Can they just increase my hours like that for no extra pay etc.?

Just looking for general opinions out there.

They can't change the terms of your contract without your permission. You have to sign it before they can do anything with your contracted hours. Might it just be a temp thing until the other people are replaced? Maybe you can negotiate so that if 9-5 is a problem, you could work 8-4 or half 8-half 4. I'd imagine you're on a salary, in which case your pay would not have to increase. It would only have to if you were paid hourly.
