Are boards.ie now injecting adwords to threads or is it malware on my computer that I've downloaded from somewhere? If adwords are now part of boards, how long has this being going on for?

What do you mean by into threads exactly? Can you post a picture?

The adwords were powered by text enhance, however I've since been to their website which has opted me out of it.

Looking online it seems it's probably the case that I had downloaded something nasty (which makes sense because I was on a website looking for a keygen), but it was just strange because it was only boards that I was seeing it on.

Also, sorry, I don't mean threads, I meant posts.

You are not the first person to fall foul of "Text Enhance" here on Boards.ie - Otis Driftwood had a thread over in Site Development about it too. Boards.ie is not injecting ads into your posts or enhancing text in any way.

However I will admit that our advertisements tend to be little black boxes - we stick a placeholder on the page and get served ads into them from external sources. It could possibly be the case that one of these ads has some wizardry going on that's adding Text Enhance to the page, so if you see it again please take some screenshots with the ads so we can investigate further. I can assure you that if anything like this is happening and it's not just something you opted into or downloaded then we'll remove it from the site :)

Thanks for the response Danny. I sourced it to a chrome extension that somehow managed to install itself. Not sure where the extension came from, and it really could have been anywhere. The odd thing is that it seemed to be injecting ad words to boards.ie posts only, as I frequent a number of other forums where they are running vBulletin such as Somethingawful.com, and there was no sign of it. It could have been anything really.

I'm sick of seeing this too! Every other time I see this in either one of my own posts or someone elses! :( 'Win an iPad2' - yeah, Feck off!!! :P

Weird that all of us were getting the same ad - the ones I was seeing was to win an ipad as well.

I just ran the malwarebytes anti malware program and it cleared it right up.

I have been getting this on another vbullitin site and it is the ipad popup I am seeing as well.

I ran malwarebytes and nothing showed up at all. I even opened the site while the scan was running and was staring the thing in the face!

So you're all saying this "text enhance" is showing up in posts that have the "Win an iPad" advertisement?

Could I get a link to this advertisement (Click through to the ad, copy the URL) the next time it and Text Enhance show up. I'll try give it the bullet then if it's something sneaky
