Was the CE scheme the only employment in the household? FIS isn't payable on CE schemes in that case. You or your partner would need to have another job of a min of 19 hours per week.

It WAS the only payment(along with 15 hours) up until August. The same company kept me on, on a part time basis, for between 20 and 28 hours a week since then. I applied on 19th September for fis, after I had been working for 4 weeks. Still on the same hours, so should be eligible. Have sent them 2 months worth of payslips, but think I will send them every payslip since I started

Have you got your arrears yet Lollydolly?

i got the letter today, we were the last week in august.
    We got refused.
They send a letter detailing how my partners social welfare payment is more beneficial..... By 43c.

The figure they used was an average of 40 weeks wages, it included 20hrs overtime i did last easter, this brought my weekly average wage up by 11 euro per week.
    Devastated.....
The letter was dated 16th of feb, arrived today, hope this helps someone.
In short as far as i can see, there is no point applying for fis unless you have 3+ kids or are parenting alone.

Are you basing this on your own situation or have you any other information to show this.imo thats a very unhelpful point to make and would hope it doesn't make anyone reconsider applying.

I would advise ALL working people to apply, esp now as the waiting time has decreased.

I am not really in a good place following this decision, I may need some time to accept this.

We all know we have incomes less than €505 or €605 per week, but I would have presumed that if I was awarded FIS,my partners BTEA payment would have been €188 not €157.

Lets just say there are many more rules at play than detailed on the FIS section on the Welfare website and the Citizen Information website.

    Like what?

Like the rules they don't go into detail about until you are in a situation like wmpdd3's

They have finished August and are on the first week in September now, I'll be another few weeks, but at least I managed to explain everything, and get a name, and told them about my emails that I had sent.

Im first week of October so hopefully only another 4 weeks. This waiting period is a joke and has really put so many people under serious financial pressure.I really hope they sort out some sort of new system for when it s due to be renewed again.

When you are approved for FIS do you get a letter saying you are approved first or does a payment just arrive in your bank account?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 346 ✭✭Francescoli

Hi just looking for a bit of advice, i called them today and they said that we were sent a letter yesterday to say they are looking for more payslips. We are sending them in as soon as we get the letter but will we be put to the end of the pile or will we be seen to quickly? We are waiting 25 weeks now and our money is starting to run out.

I doubt u will be put to the back of the pile when u send them ring them 2 days later and tell them u sent all documentation that was required and keep at them

There will be a return envelope with the letter and it will have the name of the person dealing with it.Once you return it ,it will be dealt with.there is no waiting and it goes to the top of the queue.I wouldn't waste my time or money ringing them.I would expect to receive the decision from them within 5 days after you post the payslips

Applied 4th December. It went to an inspector in January. Still have heard nothing from the inspector. Does anyone know how long or how they contact you. Partner works for his father farming with the last 20 years. Do they contact partner, his father or the accountact or me.

Hi just to let everybody know, I applied for FIS last year and after 6 months of waiting etc was refused (problem down to my husband being self employed). Anyway applied again two weeks ago for this year and have been approved, it was actually paid into my bank account today. In total shock so maybe they are starting to sort through them a lot quicker. I think 14 day turn around is fab, one happy girl. Good luck to everybody with your applications.

Rang today. Automated message says all new applications made after 5th November are processing without delay. Maybe this is why you got you got your's so quick Annette Delaney? Hope it is cause I got my date through last week 21st Feb. Did you get a letter before the payment or did they just lodge it into your account?

First they will contact your partner and interview him, then they will speak to his father and possibly his accountant but not sure about that bit tbh.

I was refused a few weeks ago, I went to my local TD who went through the welfare site print offs with a fine tooth comb and I appealed.

I was refused as they worked out I would be better with my partner getting the BTEA increase for the two kids instead of me getting FIS. The difference was less than a €1. So no arrears.

I have been contacted and asked for more information and will get this in immediately.

Just in case anyone has been refused and is starting to doubt their calculations, I would say appeal and get another person to look at your application.

Our income is no where near the limit for 1 child let alone the 2 children we have!
