This is a great site I use for downloading free gps topographic maps to my handheld gps for hiking.

    http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/

Ive used this for California, Alaska, and Spain.

Ireland is there as well, its teh same as the SMC contour maps which have been discussed on here before.

But the California and Alaska maps I got were first class, and were already in an .IMG format, ready for download straight onto the GPS.

    Enjoy.

Would the maps for California be suitable for driving? And was it easy to set up on the satnav?

Not sure about the road maps, ive only used it for topographic maps, but im sure the road maps are perfect.

I use a program called Img2GPS to upload to the sat nav.
