Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Looking for a different suit

Ok. I have a wedding coming up this year. My wedding. Therefore I need a suit. What I don't want though is a "wedding suit", or something that looks like the cheap tux I wore to my secondary school prom.

I want something different. Not a novelty suit to be ironic or something weird like a blue velvet thing, but just a classic looking suit that isn't the standard black, dark grey, or dark blue. For example, I saw a cool looking brown suit in the latest GQ magazine. I guess I could get a brown suit (or something else) made via one of those online bespoken companies but how do I know if a brown suit would look good on me if I can't even find one here to try on?

I've gone to every men's shop I could find in Dublin and Galway and all I see are black, dark blue, and dark grey. I've thought that maybe a trip to London would be a good idea but I've never been and therefore wouldn't have the foggiest of where to go.

Anyone have any suggestions? My budget is not outrageous but at the same time I don't expect to find something "cheap" either.

    Thanks.

A brown suit is really only going to look good on people with olive or darker skin tones.

I would disagree with the above poster, its all about the shade of the colour and we can only give that kind of advice/opinion if we can see you.

If you want anything other than black, navy, or at a stretch grey then your only option is to go made-to-measure or bespoke.

I would reccommend strongly against going on-line for a suit, there are a number of reasons why, not least that the cloth tends not to be great and there are no fittings.

There are a number of great tailors in Dublin, where you can see the swatches of cloth and have a talk about what you're looking for. How about a brown Donegal tweed suit for instance? PM if you want a list of tailors and some links in what to read up on.

OP, have you tried going to some of the smaller rental places and trying their stuff on? My friend got married in a lovely brown suit he rented from Tangos in Temple Bar- they have a surprising amount of suits that are a bit different.

I have seen brown suits in a few places, they're not that difficult to find- try places like Hackett menswear, and more of the smaller suit shops that you'd find. Ted Baker might be a good idea also, at least just to get an idea.
