I can access smallnetbuilder.com now. Unfortunately I don't know what the fix is. I assume UPC network techs have changed something.

    BTW safelinking.net is also working.

Guys, can you post your IP address (not the full address, just the first two set of digits on the left). You can find your IP address from www.whatsmyip.org.

I'm fully convinced that this is only a problem for IP addresses beginning with 46.7.*.*...

I'm 46.7 too, have tweeted UPC about it and they said they were looking into it, but no joy as of yet

EDIT: My friend who's also having the problem has an IP that starts 46.7

Not really, UPC control what ip address is associated with your router. You can try and use a proxy server or a VPN to change the ip address you are visiting a site from, but I found that these didn't work for safelinking.net.

Agh! This is driving me around the bend. Still can't access http://safelinking.net. I've tried proxy servers but I can't see the captcha. I'm getting absolutely no joy from UPC.

Does anyone have a work around for this?

Can I ask people who have this problem to please let UPC know. The more people that report the problem the sooner UPC will get off their asses and do something about it.

try that link using IE.... some websites dont work well in firefox or chrome

also upc DNS servers often go down or crap out.... set your primary dns to 8.8.8.8 and secondary dns to 8.8.4.4 (google's dns servers) on your pc.

It's not to do with the browser.

    I've tried 4 browsers on 2 machines.

Yea, I've done a simpler check. I've tried accessing the site on my phone over my 3G connection and it's fine, switch to WiFi and I can't access the site. I've tried on my PC using the Google DNS servers and the OpenDNS servers and still no joy. Besides I can do a tracert and it resolves the IP address, but the tracert fails somewhere withing the UPC network.

No issues with either site here, but on a 79.X.Y.Z address. I have Open DNS on my router, nothing set on the PCs (208.67.222.222 primary and 208.67.220.220 backup).

Mate of mine was onto UPC. He opened the call about this on 30th.
He's sent UPC on his traceroute and also mentioned this thread.

Today he got told by UPC that they can access safelinking on a 46 IP but don't know why he can't.
Would prolly be easier to change these customers to a new IP on a case by case basis.

I switch to using the Tor Browser package and it changes your IP address and I can access the safelinking.net website, but Tor is very slow and not a proper solution. What I might try and do is releasing my WAN (UPC) IP address and then leaving the modem off for a while and then powering it back on, hopefully it'll pick up a new IP address. Otherwise I'm going to insist that UPC put me on another IP address.

There is a very long lease time with UPC ip addresses, I think. I shut mine down for over 3 weeks last year and got the same one back.

Any of ye guys find ways around this or is it the UPC addy???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

Ì called them weeks ago, heard nothing for ten or eleven days after sending in my traceroute results.

I called them bac and got a bit shouty, then someone else called me back asking me to telnet to the website, that obviously didn't work either.

He told me they are "aware" of the problem and are "working" on fixing it.

I actually hate UPC customer service.

Yep, same problem here. IP begins with 46.7 and can't get on to safelinking. I wonder did any of the earlier posters get this sorted yet? I'm looking in Skittle's direction, for example.
