    Theme or issue: pick a theme that all the books/ films you studied have in common, such as violence, and compare and contrast that theme in all three texts. Use linking words like "where as..." "similarly in the Constant Gardener..." "one thing all three texts have in common is..." "one difference between the Constant Gardener and Great Gatsby is..."

    Literary genre: HOW THE STORY IS TOLD. You would talk about the techniques used in the films or novels (to tell the story) like; dialogue, narrative style, the use of the opening and end scenes, the use of minor characters, the use of humour, the use of dramatic irony, the use of striking imagery, the use of lyrical devices such as alliteration, the use of soundtrack. Make sure not only to identify the techniques but also make a conclusive statement as to what they do, i.e. "setting is a key factor in any story and the setting in this novel is often created through the use of imagery..."
