2020+ is likely as GlobalFoundries is only starting production of 7nm next year, so it's either Zen2/Vega or Zen3/Navi.
I don't think we'll see cyber punk this console generation at all,I'd say there waiting for next gen.

Already announced for both and PC, bit weird if they did.

The stuff shown to the press at E3 was pre-alpha apparently, so I wouldn't be too surprised if it took until 2020 to come out.

As for the next gen console release date, the scuttlebutt is that the PS5 uses Zen and a form of Navi, and apparently AMD are prioritising PS5 development over PC development.

No news leaking out about Xbox, but I'd be shocked if it isn't as powerful, and around the same time.

Bet CDPR will double dip with Cyberpunk like Rockstar did with GTAV.

Release it on PS4/Xbox and then again on PS5/Xbox2 with 60FPS and a few other features.

What is 'affordable' though? Like, affordable to bid a pc with or for consoles to use I n their builds? And for the latter, what type of processor and at what price?

Genuinely curious here by the way, some Ryzen processors have plummeted in price with the 1600 below £150 on amazon and the 1200 (which overclocked matches an I5 7400) below £80. Obviously if you are talking about console components the likes of MS and Sony would be buying at very different prices in very different ways and I have basically no clue as to how that all works, but the first gen ryzen stuff has been dipping quite a bit in price lately.

They'd be mad to have the price point over €500/$500 in my opinion.
Affordable means they can get AMD to produce the SOC for a price which achieves this price point.

May have misunderstood Sephiroth_dude, I thought he was referring to the system rather than the generation.

Win win for AMD, they get a long deal with a large volume and it more than likely gives a boost to their PC hardware when developers have a focus on the intricacies of their architecture.

No benefit to releasing early or later than each other, both are a risk. Just need to hit Thanksgiving in the US, Christmas, or New year dependant on the country.

AMD said that Navi will come out first without HBM2 at first, so will the console wait longer, will they get it early, or will Sony/MS not use it. Personally think they'll both wait for it.

Big hardware difference between those for GTAV, won't be the same this time around.

Can't see them doing it, it'd be a hard sell to do so.

I reckon 450ish will be the target.

Apparently the demo that was shown was running on the highest of hardware available and was still struggling in places with frame rates. Plus at times there were 100's of NPC's on screen at a time so there is not a chance it's coming out for this gen.

It was targeting 30 FPS on the PC as well.

It could still come out on this gen hardware but pared back considerably like Watchdogs was but it's quite clearly aiming for next gen systems.

If they bring out a game locked to 30fps on pc they will lose any reputation they have built up in the PC Community. People would rather sacrifice other things than the framerate on PC.

BTW going my performance on a demo, which is most likely alpha is stupid.. Optimizations always come last.

In their recent round of E3 interviews, Jason Schreier from Kotaku spoke with the CEO of CD Projekt Red, Marcin Iwiński. It was strongly hinted that Cyberpunk would be current gen.

GTX 1080 Ti came out in December 2017, and is only an iterative upgrade from the GTX 1080 which released in March 2016.

High-end graphics have stagnated for many reasons, so I'm not worried that the alpha/beta code is struggling on hardware that should have had a generational upgrade by now.

The 1080Ti came out sometime March/April 2017, that's when I got mine - so a lot earlier than December. The 1080 I don't think was until May 2016. The Ti is a good bit more powerful than the 1080 but it is the same graphics card generation.

That's not true, the Ti is always king and a good bit better than that gen flagship.. It usually goes flagship > Titan > Ti

It's the main reason many people wait for it over the current flagship of a new generation. Of course the titans usually have more vram than the Ti but it's usually less powerful.

Doesn't fit with the new xbox model, back compat and bring your game collection with you to the next gen. They could release at the end of this gen and then have a patch for xbox2. PS on the other hand is a different story, but they'd be mad to have the PS5 as a completely separate platform. I'd imagine they will jump on board the back compat train.

Is this video the biggest example of wishful thinking ever? :pac:

After Sony killed off the vita I can't see them getting back into the portable console market and making the same mistake twice!

It only came up in recommended videos as I was watching vita videos prior to and following the new cfw hack.

  • Registered Users Posts: 27,322 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

I mean the Switch proved the desire and the audience is there for a device like that but I wouldn't trust Sony to pull it off.

They made such a mess with their decisions on the Vita, from the stupidly expensive proprietary memory format which to the dropping of development support so early into it's life. Sony did everything they could to kill the Vita and despite all that, it was and still is a great little console.

Sony will play it safe. Release a PS5 which is an iteration of the PS4 and have a nice backwards compatible library as a result. they don't need to compete with Nintendo in the same way Nintendo don't need to compete with Sony.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,038 ✭✭✭Doge

It will live on as a decent and relatively inexpensive portable emulation device. The sd2vita adapters are essentially a Vita game cartridge which take a Microsd card and I've seen people put upto 512GB cards in them. That's a lot of storage for your PS1 and psp image files and arcade / console roms.

Sony don't always play it safe. PSVR was ballsy enough, they have something interesting to offer I'm sure.

"TENCENT AIMING TO LAUNCH A STEAM COMPETITOR WORLDWIDE" (Game Watcher)

These guys have clout... will be interesting to see if this is just a counter to Valve's announcement that they're launching a Chinese version of Steam, or if their long term ambition goes beyond that.

Competition is welcome as long as there's no exclusives and we have a choice to choose.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭EoinHef

Tencent indeed have clout, they have steadily invested in western companies also.

Especially companies that specialise in games as a service.

More competition should only be a good thing, hopefully.

If i had lots of dough id invest in tencent shares, they already have a high share price but even if they took 20% of valves sales that must equate to a shed load of money.

Agreed about store exclusives, that would be pretty bad and a pretty big change to the PC landscape.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

Why would it matter though? You can have both on PC.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,540 ✭✭✭✭Varik

Pretty sure all EA games are only available on Origin now and valve games obvisouly, but Ubi Still have their stuff on Steam.

People do complain when they can't get something on steam to have it all together, but it's a hard ask of a publisher to hand over 30% of the price to Valve on their store. I don't think valve take anything from external sales of games that use their platform; so if you buy a boxed game and activate it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,585 ✭✭✭Jerichoholic

Steam used to be the only way, but lately not so much. Their sales aren't a big deal any more. You can get the games cheaper everywhere else now. "Add non steam game to library" is not a problem for me if it can be got cheaper elsewhere.

Store exclusives has been a part of PC gaming for years, want to play a Valve game then you need to get Steam. Want an EA game then you need Origin, fancy playing a Microsoft title, well then you need to get it on the Windows store. Ubisoft are the only ones who offer their titles on third-party stores.

Given that Valve takes 30% of every Steam sale it's easy to understand why publishers are resistant to putting their titles on there, 30% of a million copies at $60 a pop is $18 million which is a huge chunk of change and were I a publisher I'd sure as hell not want to be handing that over to a third party who had no input into the game. Brick and Mortar stores don't get close to 30% of a sale.

    Yay! New Commandos! From PCGamesN;
Kalypso Media, the publisher-developer behind Tropico, Dungeons, and Railway Empire, has bought all rights to Commandos, a terrific series of real-time tactics/stealth sandboxes set in World War II. The acquisition also covers other games by Commandos dev Pyro Studios, such as Imperial Glory and Praetorians.

So there'll be new Commandos titles across the main platforms, as well as remasters of the older games. Nice. Long time off though.

Why would it matter though? You can have both on PC.

Im already invested in steam, the main reason I don't buy origin games is because I need another launcher.. I did use it for bf4 but it lacked a lot of features/community steam had. The same goes for uplay.. But I still can tie my games to my steam library with uplay.

Of course if a uplay key is cheaper than steam (usually is) ill jump on that.. But I try not to spread too much across many libraries.

Its not really the need for separate launchers but the least amount of steps to booth up another game easily, and arrange things.. Sure I can add non steam games.. But they won't be updated until I boot it or start the launcher.
